NISSAN-350Z
Hi all I am new to this forum so I hope everyone is very well and I get the potential support required. I have seen the most stunning 2003 350z import in Daytona Blue and it has 100,000 miles on the clock. The body is amazing, like really really good and drives like a dream but it has a problem with crunching in 3rd gear. I do believe it is the third gear synchro. I have had a quote to get it repaired to the tune of £825 all in. which is warrantied for 12 months. the car is being offered at £4350. the question is.............. what do i do???? Do I buy and risk it costing more than the third gear synchro, if they find any more issues??? What should I do??? Many thanks everyone
Rook
I'm far from the most experienced around here but £5200 for a car that you'll need have worked on, is an import, has already done 100,000 miles and is 12 years old... I paid just over £1000 more than that for an 07 plate UK car that didn't need any work with 88,000 (advertised at 6750, talked him down), and he was advertising at the price autotrader recommended; it was HPI checked, serviced, everything; all checked out. It wasn't a fishy deal. If were two of older/import/higher mileage/needing repair - it'd be decent but I just wouldn't go for it myself. Particularly as your £850 quote is based in an assumption, regardless of how safe. NB for those asking why I count import as a negative; it added £400 to my insurance (normally about £450 on the Z), essentially making this car £5600 up front compared to a UK for me. I think I could do better for £5600! Edit; Like this (not mine or associated in any way!): http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=321784564811&globalID=EBAY-GB £5250, so he'll probably take 5. You could spend that £250 on a p3 service and still be better off long term. It's not blue, but if I were on a budget as it seems you are, I'd be more worried about finding a car I can rely on and won't cost extra on things like insurance for no real gain. Not to say this will be any more reliable than the blue one repaired, but you have a better chance of knowing what you're letting yourself in for. bamdc2
Lots of Zeds for sale which you can pick and choose from. Personally any crunching and I would walk away fast. Who knows what the rest of the gearbox is like.

docwra
Although Im selling a blue, 03 import with 100K miles as well ........... I wouldnt risk it if it has a gearbox prob. As I said on a similar thread yesterday, if its a straightforward fix why hasnt the seller done it?

As I said on a similar thread yesterday, if its a straightforward fix why hasnt the seller done it? To be fair, I bought a Z with a gearbox problem, though I didn't realise it until the drive home. The dealer replaced the box and the car is sweet, was a shame to write it off over the box as it's a real minter. If you can factor in the cost of a box, to the purchase price, and you're getting an exceptionally good deal. I'd go for it. As long as that's all that's wrong with it. It was a real chore finding a good box for mine though.
Payco
Sounds like you have a budget to work to. I wouldn't go this route as you never know what else could be wrong and unless you have a healthy reserve to put it right it could be a bad start to z ownership. Why hasn't the seller fixed it before the car was sold ?. I would walk away as there are plenty of other z's out there.

TT350
I was about to suggest buying a second hand gearbox but a quick ebay search revealed 800-2000 quid asking prices. 500 for auto. Hang in there mate. Hold fire and find the right one for you.

Hi all, It has been a little while since I was last on this forum in my search for my perfect 350z. The last stage of my search was finding an imported, stunning blue 350z but it needed some gear synchro work (3rd gear). I walked away as it felt it wouldn't have been a good move. After finding this forum and posting my concerns I had some helpful replies and one member posted a link. The link was posted by member 'Rook' I rang the guy in the eBay listing, asked LOADS of questions and went down to Portsmouth (from Durham) and bought it!!! I have had the car for a few months now and can say its amazing, so powerful etc. It came with a full stainless Powerflow exhaust system etc and has been a rock!! Loads of positive comments from other people too when they see it. It also has the same known 'features' Heavy Steering Heavy Clutch Random popping noise (like a light pop) sounds like its coming from clutch but it doesn't affect car one bit, (engine sounds tight) Boot struts need changing Like I said I am chuffed with this car as it will hold its value well and if anything go up in value!! HAPPY DAYS!!!
