jimmy.farrow7
I recently brought a JWT pop charger from Tarmac sports so I thought I would do a step by step with pictures. Tools I used- Small drill Small drill bit Flat head screwdriver Phillips screwdriver 10mm socket Adjustable spanner First of all I disconnected the negative on my battery before starting. 1)Remove your airfilter from airbox. 2)Disconnect the clip that is connecting the MAF wire onto the top of your airbox (mine snapped be careful). 3)Disconnect MAF wire and tuck out of the way. I pressed down on the MAF wire clip with a small amount of pressure & got my small flat head and used it as leverage between air intake and the bottom of the clip as it was very tight. Be careful as MAF wires are very delicate. 4) Remove the bolt that is holding the air box in place, it is just underneath the strut brace. 5)Now undo the bolt/clip that is holding the MAF tube in place, only loosen until the clip moves freely. 6)Remove clip from air vent. 7)Now the whole air box should be free. Pull up gently and check if no wires or trim are caught. If not pull firmly up and towards you and it will slide right up. 8)Now remove the MAF housing tube from old air box and transfer to the JWT filter. 9)Attach rubber trim to the heat shield 10)Now line up your heat shield in correct place, make sure the air vent (step 6) is pushed in, it should now overlap the screw holes on the heat shield. I just used a small screw to mark the vent where to drill both holes. Now remove vent, drill 2 pilot holes and place back in position. 11) Now attach bracket to underside of heat shield against metal frame underneath with 2 bolts. There is not much room to work to secure the bracket so i used a 10mm socket extension + adjustable spanner to tighten. 12) Attach new filter, re-connect MAF sensor and retighten clip and bolt to intake tube 13)Attach bracket with bolt(same hole as step 4) and clip onto MAF wire. 14) All finished, time to re-connect battery. Hope this helps guys Edited June 28, 2015 by jimmy.farrow7

TimC
Good guide with loads of pics. Looks like you are going to be busy with the mods, what else you got planned or done already.
martybhoy
Excellent guide. Always the sign of a good forum with lots of guides like these after all were all here because we love our zeds. Ps nice wheels

jimmy.farrow7
I was hoping for another 5/6 hours of modding today but weather has been rubbish.
jimmy.farrow7
Ive got my black door mirrors and black handles to fit, and painting my engine bay plastics mate. I had some paint mixed in A17 paint good rather than just orange paint.
TimC
Should look good when done. The rain has stopped me doing anything today, I was hoping to get the exhaust polished, windscreen scratches polished, wheels off and wheel arches cleaned and few other bits. I am thinking of black handles, would be nice to get some black and gold Z badges as well.
jimmy.farrow7
What do you use to polish your exhaust Tim. I need to get some axle stands to clean my arches. Im going to take off my undertray this week also if i get the time and fit my one I got from atorqen. I have loads of car parts but I want to fit them myself rather than a garage. Mudman
Megs metal polish or auto sol will be good on the exhaust. Great guide. Will be selling my Pop Charger when I get get around to listing it, now the Stillen is on.
TimC
Yea I want to do as much as I can myself as well, Halfords still have the 2 ton axle stands on special for £13, I have 4 now so can get all 4 wheels up safely now. I use Autosol for polishing the exhaust, seems to work well although there are others.
Payco
Interesting guide and I am sure will be useful for others to follow.Never seen the intake hose located alongside the intake and not below before..
chrisday1990
Just out of interest what are the benefits of removing a product designed for your car no one else's and to then suck hot air from the engine bay? Just wondering because surly the OEM acts as a ram air system. Edited June 28, 2015 by chrisday1990
jimmy.farrow7
Apparently it boasts 6-8bhp gains, some say it loses 2/4bhp due to heat soak It gives off a better sound than the standard airbox + looks better in the bay I myself cant seeing it being a problem as so many people on this forum have them fitted. It seems to be a good mod for many users on here but like most things there are pros and cons, I myself am a fan.
chrisday1990
My brother done this on his Peugeot 106 made the 1.2 8v sound quite good.. Wonder what the HR would sound like with them

Hodaka
Great guide I installed my JWT Pop Charger last week (using a different guide) and love it. Just a quick question. How did you get the vent out? I removed the clip and pulled it towards the front bumper, but then couldn't seem to lift it out of the car. There just wasn't enough space. I had a search around when I was doing the install and there seems to be a lot of people saying they had trouble with that bit, so if you could elaborate I think it'd definitely help some people. For me personally, I had to resort to holding the drill bit with my fingers and twisting it by hand. Far from ideal but did get the job done in the end
jimmy.farrow7
I pulled out the clip, pulled the vent towards me twisted it 90 degrees and pulled it up with a bit of force.

jimmy.farrow7
It came free pretty easy once i pulled it out towards me, i would say beginners luck but i managed to get it back in the same place to attach the screws :s
Hodaka
I guess I was just too gentle then. I didn't really yank on it as I thought I was doing something wrong.
p34nut
Nice write up The one thing I noticed when I was installing mine today is that the twisted L bracket seems to be better fitted to one of the bolts on the back of the popcharger rather than than the maf I will upload my pic when I get a chance
