Juggalo
Was bringing the car home and noticed a whine in first gear. All other gears were fine. I didn't really notice it on the test drive. Concerned, I took it to a gearbox specialist yesterday who said the bearings are shot, and needs stripping. Advising that if driven, the bearing will eventually shatter and destroy the box. Going to costs a fair whack. Luckily the dealer I bought it off has been completely brilliant about it, and seems more eager to keep me happy than keeping his profit intact. To be fair, he's probably going to lose his profit on this problem. Was contemplating rejecting the car, but it's an absolute minter aside from that problem. Juggalo
Not a great start but sounds like the dealer is doing the right thing, who is it? Name put me off, but he seems to sell very well cared for cars. I think this one got in under his radar. Anyway, we'll see how it's handled and I'll update as and when. Will be Monday now before the Specialist has ascertained the damage. http://www.tradecars4u.co.uk/
ZEUS
I agree not a great name but if they sort your car out and see you right then that's the main thing. Its refreshing to hear about a dealer that seems to care, so many stories on here of those that don't!
Juggalo
Exactly. I spent 15 yrs in the motor trade, and I never found a single dealer worth a toss. I'm hoping this guy breaks the stereotype and lives up to his advertised word.

daveallen1999
Hope all goes well. If the dealer does the right thing, I will have to keep a note of them when I decide to replace my Z, after my engine blows up on track.
Ricey
Hi bud, We're in Chester too (well sandycroft but I come from Chester). Feel free to pop in for a coffee sometime Which gearbox specialist has it gone into? If I was you I'd have the DMF and clutch checked whilst your there as if they're worn but not goosed (let's say they've got another 10k in them even) it could be a good time to shell out yourself on a new one because the box is getting dropped anyway and it's a swine of an expensive job to do......you might only end up paying for the parts rather than the labour.

Thanks bud The Gearbox Centre in Buckley. Heard they're very good. Do they do single flywheel kits for the Zed? Unfortunately the car has reamed me financially this month, so I'm just going to have to let the dealer sort this one, otherwise I'd definitely have a new clutch at the least. I think the last time I had a DMF done ran me for £550. Wish I'd done it myself, it's not that difficult, just time consuming and awkward if you haven't got ramps or a pit. Lol my mates car has just come out of there having at a recon box fitted due to something letting go and punching a hole in the gearbox. He's just had about a grand of work done by us as well.....poor lad. DMF and clutch will run you anywhere from £750 to over a grand depending on where you go. They do a solid for the zed I do believe

I did ask the guy at TGC if he had any recon 350 gearboxes. "nah mate, it's not a ford escort" haha
Juggalo
Just a wee update: No news over the weekend, obviously. Called yesterday and could't get any solid information from the Gearbox woman. Same deal today. Spoke to the dealer. He's been liaising with the mechanic since Friday. The gearbox is beyond economical repair which really surprised me, it didn;t sound quite that bad. Anyway, he's been trying to source a recon unit. Hard to find apparently. Z33 box 321/A03 that has the clutch arm on the outside, and the cylinder bolted on top. So if you guys know a reputable source? I'm still quietly shocked that I'm not getting an argument/attitude over it. they're supposed to kick you to the kerb when they've got your money! zebedy
But any reputable gear box guys can strip the gearing and replace parts. Why would they condem the whole box??
a2orry
But any reputable gear box guys can strip the gearing and replace parts. Why would they condem the whole box?? it happens unfortunately if the box isn't that common prices for individual parts can cost a fortune .if it were a vectra or a mondeo the gearbox guy would hand you one off his shelf .
