Hello & Help with P Code Problem

Hi, I'd like to introduce myself on here as I am a big fan of the 350Z. Although I don't own one I specialise in performance car sales and have recently sold one to a customer of mine but I am having a problem with the car throwing a CEL all the time.

 

The fault code is P1147 - heated oxygen sensor 2 (bank 1) max voltage not reached. I have replaced the sensor, which did look VERY sooty but within 24 hours and about 100 miles of driving it has come back on.

 

The car is a 2004 54 with 68k on the clock, FSH and has an Invidia Gemini catback and BERK high flow cats.

 

Has anyone else experienced this problem and has a CEL Fix extender off ebay solved the problem or do I need to look at other things? I would like to get the issue resolved as soon as possible for my customer so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine chucked a CEL when the Berks went on, the extenders did not resolve it for me, I believe it has for others. At something like £12 I think they're definitely worth a shot. Got mine from Clark Motorsport on here, so you can shoot them a PM. They're always happy to help.

 

Ultimately, an Uprev "cured" the CEL for me - when I say cured, I mean the sensors were disabled. I think GM also cured the issue the same way. I can't imagine you want to fork out for an Uprev though. Best bet is to try the extenders first and then failing that, get a cheap OBD2 code reader and just check it if it pops up, clear it, then lather rinse repeat as needed.

As above, it's the HFC causing the problem. If the extenders don't cure it, which it does for some, then ether fit OEM cats or get the car remapped at an UPREV tuner and turn the codes off while they are at it.

No point going over the same things ~ basically what Stu & Sam above have said.

 

The only way I found to cure the EML coming on whilst running using the Berks HFC's was with an UpRev (remap ~ £399 odd for N/A) which obviously isn't financially viable for yourself I'd imagine. I'd be inclined to tell the customer what you've learnt and see what they want to do.

Thanks for your reply guys, much appreciated. I'll give the CEL fix extenders a try and see how it goes. They worked perfectly for my S2000 so fingers crossed! I'll let you know how I get on.

gsexr, I am a very small business, trading for the past 18 months and I strongly believe in good customer service, including after sales support as reputation is everything.

 

I completely agree that a lot of customers would be fobbed off by traders, especially as I did over 200 miles in the car without any issue before advertising it for sale. I do this with most of my stock to ensure that I can identify any potential problems they may have in order for me to resolve them before sale.

 

Unfortunately, no matter what measures I go to before the sale, there are the odd few cars that do have a problem once in the hands of the customer but I do my absolute best to resolve any issues with as little inconvenience to them as possible.

Something else that occurs is that if the PO has put on Berks and an Invidia exhaust (perhaps there's even a plenum spacer in there?) then they may well have already had an uprev. If that's the case, and I understand correctly, they have paid for the uprev license, so if you found out which of the tuners had done it. They could confirm and you'd be able to get it remapped, disable the sensors and not have to soak up the cost of the licence.

 

It's a long shot, but it might save you and the customer a few quid. The list of Uprev tuners is quite short IIRC, Abbey, Horsham Developments, TDI North, RS Tuning. You could ring round and ask if they've upreved it?

Thanks for the suggestion Stu. I bought the car off someone I know and he definitely didn't have an uprev done on it. I do know that the o2 sensors sit in the HFC's directly and although they do have a slight extender to them then I don't think they're long enough.

 

When you say plenum spacer do you mean on the inlet manifold?
