Hi Everyone, Newbie here :)

Recommended Posts

hey guys.

Im just new to this forum, iv been a member of loads of other forums in the past. the sxoc club was my favourite so far.

Im looking into getting a 350z in the new few months, always loved them and im after a nice 2 seater sports car which handles well and has good throttle response, and from what iv read so far the 350z ticks all these boxes. Iv just got a few questions for you experienced guys out there.

1) what are they like to live with,(running costs, repaires, common faults, rust etc)

2) Do they have much tuning potention as iv always been one for putting my own stamp on my cars and tuning them for more enjoyment.

3) Im stuck between getting a hardt-top model and the soft-top. I must say i prefer the look of the hard-top better but iv always wanted a nice convertable to drop when the sun gets out. Any pros or cons for either?

4) Which year/model of the 350z should i be going for really? Im looking to spend between 6-7k max.

thanks guys. Im really looking forward to becoming a active member on this forum.

1) what are they like to live with,(running costs, repaires, common faults, rust etc) Running costs are inline with any high performance car. E.g: High fuel consumption generally, higher insurance, 18" tyres etc.

Common faults are things like: the boot not opening with a single press of the button, inaccurate fuel gauge, rocker cover gaskets leaking (all fixable).

2) Do they have much tuning potention as iv always been one for putting my own stamp on my cars and tuning them for more enjoyment. Yes loads of potential ~ everything from suspension, BBK's to superchargers (like mine) & twin turbos. See the traders on here: http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/93-professional-traders/

3) Im stuck between getting a hardt-top model and the soft-top. I must say i prefer the look of the hard-top better but iv always wanted a nice convertable to drop when the sun gets out. Any pros or cons for either? Personal choice ~ sometimes the soft tops can be temperamental at going up & down in cold conditions from what I gather.

4) Which year/model of the 350z should i be going for really? Im looking to spend between 6-7k max. For that budget you'll be looking at early Zeds (DE engine) with mid to higher mileage I'd say.

thanks guys. Im really looking forward to becoming a active member on this forum.

Welcome to the forums :) . Briefly.......

1 Running costs will be to a degree mileage dependent. I've only done 21,000 in mine and apart from 2 batteries, tyres and wiper blades have only had to replace one banana arm. Engines should last a long time as long as the oil is changed every 6-9k and has never been allowed to run low. It's important that the car has been run on 98 RON fuel, although this can be impossible to determine if the cars had loads of owners. Rust doesn't seem to be a problem but I expect that it will at some stage.

2 A remap will only gain you 10-15 BHP and only a very small number of licensed tuners can do it. Bigger gains can be had from a supercharger but this'll be expensive.

3 Roadsters roofs tend to split after a few years, repair can be expensive.

4 6-7k should get you a 54 to 06 registered model depending on condition/mileage.
