JunZ
Good morning ladies and gents, I have an idea, but I'm not sure if this would work, Basically I bought K & N typhoon for my 370z 2012, while making a research online I came across with so many bad and good reviews about their filtration, what I was wondering can Foam filters from B&Q used on K&N filter for extra filteration? (basicallyI was thinking of sliding the foam filter on top of K&N air filter for extra filtration). what do you guys think?

alexwitham
Don't do it. Think of all the money K&N have spent on research and testing - It's more likely the slander is either from trollers or from people who haven't got a clue what they're talking about, although I have seen Dyno figures that show no/little improvement over stock filters - But they do sound good, right?! Secondly, the 'B&Q foam' will not be up to the same quality, I'd be worrying about the foam element breaking down and causing all sorts of nuisance. Lastly, don't do it. Don't, just No.
Ekona
Epic thread is epic. B&Q foam as a filter?! Brilliant! Next up: Can you use olive oil instead of 5w-30? And can you use Wickes mastic to hold the sump on?
Angrybiker
And when you're finished you can relax with a nice refreshing glass of bleach Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

AliveBoy
This will stop all road debris getting through and damaging the engine, much better quality than B&Q stuff too:
Angrybiker
And since there won't be any oxygen getting through the filters now, maybe you could plant a small tree inside your airbox in the hope that it produces enough oxygen to keep the engine ticking over Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JunZ
LOL I know it doesn't sound like a good idea but K & N actually has an foam wrap for their filters. this is what i meant.
Ekona
They're meant for use in very dusty conditions, i.e. the Sahara. The more important question is why did you buy one if you thought the filtration might be crap, and assuming you found out afterwards why are you considering fitting it still anyway? GMballistic
LOL I know it doesn't sound like a good idea but K & N actually has an foam wrap for their filters. this is what i meant. What you are talking about is a "pre-cleaner". As Dan (Ekona) mentioned these are designed to be used in very dusty conditions to extend the life of the filer or cleaning them. They do as well reduce airflow through the filter but if you're driving in the desert that's the least of your worries & they are a good idea then. Just stick the K&N filter on, let it do it's job & then clean or replace yearly.

ilogikal1
Just stick the K&N thing in the bin and pop a decent panel filter in the more efficient standard airbox, let it do it's job & then clean or replace yearly. FTFY.

Siman350z
Epic thread is epic. B&Q foam as a filter?! Brilliant! Next up: Can you use olive oil instead of 5w-30? And can you use Wickes mastic to hold the sump on? This, so much this. Once a mate of mine ran an escort dry of oil- 'said it was running 'funny' On the 12am run to the only 24 hour tescos, I joked if they don't have any we'll have to buy olive oil and he said 'really? That will work then?'...! Edit: re the filter, it's not as if people have been running them for decades with no detrimental effects and millions of miles of testing. It will damage your car- I'll give you a tenner for it Edited May 4, 2015 by Siman350z
