The trackcar is dead! Long live the trackcar!

Cut and extend the arches outwards.

If you do it for both front and rear it will look awesome.

You will need to mod the bumper to keep the edges lined up.

Or copy what Docwra did with his zed.

Alternatively get a rocket bunny type or other wide body kit

Cheers Bennet, looking into a few options, not much out there thats any good or not hugley expensive so custom might be the only way to go. Dont really want to extend the steel arches with more steel as thats a heavy solution....

It also seems the tie rods on the Wisefab kit might be the wrong length, trying to resolve it via dridftworks but its very very slow going and so far the only answers Ive had are 'cant you cut it up till it fits' and 'the reason youve had to mod the wisefab for ABS is no one would drift a Z with stock engine and theyd also be able to remove ABS' - so not great......

Where I have had some good news is that after discussions with Rick from Race parts for sale I have purchased the following package.

Nismo High compression HR type heads, machined for oversize valves and high lift cams

Titanium oversized valves

Nismo GT300 double valve spring system

New seats, retainers etc

GT300 hollow cams with 268deg duration and 12.3mm lift inlet, slightly less on exhaust

And all being ported and assembled to GT300 specs by an ex Nismo engineer :D

Should compliment my NA build plans nicely! compression boost is 10.2 to 12.0, which saves me needing high comp pistons any time soon and the heads also ditch the VTC which means I wont need a new ECU to get them on and working - the UTEC should be able to get me most of the way there whilst I save for ITB's and a new ECU.

Heres some pics of the work in progress on the head porting

FINALLY resolved the wisefab fitment issues, had to cut the tie rods down, they use the same ones for all their kits it seems. Driftworks are amending the description to warn of this, also theyre redesigning the uprights for ABS and said I can have those when theyre done. Hopefully my mods solve it anyway. Also got my steering boots from DW (not included in wisefab kit...)

This is the fitment without spacers and an 8.5j et35 wheel. Crazy front track!!

gonna have to space the back out quite a lot......

Also you case my new Tow strap in that pic, below you can see the mounting of it, screwed through slam panel into the chassis. winged it at trackdays so far without a towing eye.

Previously I had modded my oil cooler mounts to line it up with the bumper, this snap shows the outcome, much better!

Other jobs ongoing atm are that the injectors arrived ready for when the heads do. Good old yahoo japan came to the rescue with these 650cc SARD injectors that ended up at £170 shipped and taxes paid.

And Ive been working on custom seat mounts, with some pointers from Jez @ HDEV to try and get some more room my 6ft3 17st frame. Gained a lot more leg room but due to the shape of the roof Ive not gained head room. Still to work on....

So with Cadwell looming Ive been VERY busy with the car.

Firstly some progress shots of the heads came trough, the engineer is just waiting on some more shims arriving to get the cams all fitted and theyre good to ship to me :D

Also got the divers side seat bracket finished and the harness attached, I know wrapping it around the rear strut brace is a bit taboo, but in my opinion its safe and will do till I get a cage. Still have the passenger side to sort but I needed the car driveable to take it to Barnsley...but more on that later

Still umming and arring about what to do kit wise to solve the retarded wisefab fitment, think Ive sorted something rather special but need my old house to sell before I can pull the trigger on it :(

So in the mean time Tarmacsportz came to the rescue wit some cheap JDM Y0! bolt on arches which I ten made a meal of fitting, wanted to keep the bumper quick release so cut the arch so that I wasn't constantly unbolting it - well the bumper art didn't line up :( Ah well, just have to keep telling myself its legal and a temporary measure!

Then it was time to take the car to APW engineering in Barnsley for its exhaust manifolds and exhaust. I gave him the dimensions I wanted and asked it to be 95db for track and although I dont have the car back yet he has set these photos through and its looking awesome :D Getting the car back off of him Tuesday and hes kindly taking it for alignment at Slide Motorsport for me Monday.

Loud! Lol think my ears are bleeding..... At idle you can barely tell it's running and it seems fine for a static dB test but above 4k something changes and literally all hell breaks loose, sounds like Mike Gardners on full chat from inside the cab lol

Need to dB test it properly, but thinking of getting a bung made for cadwell just in case and then adding more silencing after cadwell if it proves to need it. It's one of those things where we won't know for sure till it's on track screaming past a dB meter :(

Had a trackday at Cadwell recently as a shakedown of the new wisefab setup and it was a mixed bag really, some good points and some bad.

Pros: turn in and front end grip is INSANE, so so happy with it

Cons: because the kit is designed for zero caster w have pulled the heel quite far forward in the arc to get 8deg caster, this meant on big corners that really loaded up the suspension, the wheel was hitting the back of the headlight/brackets and locking the steering. NOT GOOD! This was further compounded by the longer bottom arm and, frankly, ridiculous stance which has reduced the wheel rate of the suspension from 8kg to 6kg. Also after playing with ride heights to get the suspension to a point I could drive around the issues the brakes gave up the ghost :( so that pretty much ended the day.

Heres a pretty pic to show it actually did go on track lol

26699846883_87d4596831_c.jpgFB_IMG_1464445824654 by ben taylor, on Flickr

So the plan going forwards is that I am working with APW engineering to improve the wisefab for what I want to do with it. We are going to remake the upper arm with the caster built in to pull the wheel back nearer the centre of the arch, and also contemplating shortening the lower arm. The wheel rate of the suspension is also adjustable and its currently on softest setting.

Brakes wise I got some new rear discs to go with the new rear pads I fitted just before Cadwell and some Carbon Lorraine RC6 front pads, also refreshing the fluid.

Unfortunately I have been on holiday and then taking the Z to Le Mans so the wisefab mods are waiting till after that and I am cracking on with fixing the brakes before Le Mans.

To pass the time in between Ive been taking a few pages out of DJTIMO's book and been stripping sound deadening out and also stripping the already peeling paint from the roof to vinyl wrap it. heres a few more pics.

Roll on Le Mans!

Just the drivers side to strip then clean off all the 'goo' left by the sound deadening. Also found a little rust pocket on a seam which Im glad I caught early enough to just treat and hammerite.

Been a while since the last update, mostly it was a mad scamble to get the Z ready for a trip to Le Mans. Thankfully I got it all done and managed to do 1200miles in the Z across the trip. Exhaust bedded in nicely over the trip too and developed a lovely burble, Sadly also a rattle after I beached the car on a speed bump at the Chunnel!

So some pics of the work. The main issue I had with taking the Z was the horrific brake judder from Cadwell. So to solve this I thought new pads at the front, these being Carbon Lorraine RC6, for anyone tracking their car Carbon Lorraine should be the pad of choice. No deposit issues, good feedback, and stable braking from cold to ridiculously hot, you'd struggle with the disc and/or fluid long before the pad! And I also went for new discs and pads at the back, only stovk here to shift the bias to the front, its always worked for me and Ive recently reasd the Z has a lot of rear bias as stock.

Unfortunately when chenging the front pads the seals on the calipers had died so went for a full caliper rebuild, diy and my first time. To say I was nervous is an understatement!!

first step was to pull all the pistons out

27529768175_978a75f6c7_c.jpgIMG-20160607-WA0006 by ben taylor, on Flickr

nicked one of the pistons so had to sand it smooth, thankfully none had any damage to the sealing face.

26921483523_017d1e614a_c.jpgIMG-20160607-WA0014 by ben taylor, on Flickr

old seals fell to pieces

26921485303_73dc356b2e_c.jpgIMG-20160607-WA0010 by ben taylor, on Flickr

new seals

26921489043_d1a2c258c6_c.jpgIMG-20160607-WA0008 by ben taylor, on Flickr

worth mentioning pics are only of dust seals though I replaced liquid seals also.

Then I washed and screubbed the caliper and whilst the Mrs was at work used the oven to dry them.

26920446964_b2eff75b0b_c.jpgIMG-20160607-WA0018 by ben taylor, on Flickr

then put it all back together with the new pads. Rinse and repeat on the other caliper.

27402159293_a01b8cc7b0_c.jpgIMG-20160607-WA0029 by ben taylor, on Flickr

Didnt have time to strip and refresh the paint on the calipers, and to be honest I didnt feel the need as its not a show car by any means.

Took it out for a drive once finished and thankfully no leaks but struggled with bleeding the system and had an odd noise from the back, like an intermittant squeak. Haveing refreshed all the brakes I suspected wheel bearing so ordered one and booked into a friends garage for the morning we were due to leave for Le Mans. talk about last minute!

27401858834_85ecc1551c_c.jpgFB_IMG_1465897478132 by ben taylor, on Flickr

Thankfully I was right and the rear wheel bearing was KNACKERED! whilst there also used his brembo specific vacuum bleeder system and fired all the ABS solenoids and managed a better pedal feel than when I originally got the car :D

Then was the trip to Le Mans where I have few pics sadly.

And the car was papped by a channel 4 video guy for a documentary on Le Mans, Fingers crossed it makes the final cut but the presenter was stood next to the car talking to camera :D

27735233280_778e5593ca.jpgedited_1466335700192 by ben taylor, on Flickr

Once back I parked the car up and decided it was high time I cracked on with the rear wing. Not yet finished, just one coaty of epoxy left and then design the mounts.

And thats about it for now, hopefully before rockingham in August Ill get the wisefab arms sorted to stop it catching under compression. Not enough trackdays this year for my likming but in January I moved house and the old one still hasnt sold which has tied up all my money :(

Coming along well mate!!! Epic work on the diy carbon! 👌

Cheers bud!

Nice progress.

Just wondering if you intend on painting the bonnet cents to colour match?

I have an azure and would be curious to see how it looked.

No plans to colour match im afraid :( will be painting it black when I get round to it :)
