You will need to mod the bumper to keep the edges lined up. Or copy what Docwra did with his zed. Dont really want to extend the steel arches with more steel as thats a heavy solution.... It also seems the tie rods on the Wisefab kit might be the wrong length, trying to resolve it via dridftworks but its very very slow going and so far the only answers Ive had are 'cant you cut it up till it fits' and 'the reason youve had to mod the wisefab for ABS is no one would drift a Z with stock engine and theyd also be able to remove ABS' - so not great...... Where I have had some good news is that after discussions with Rick from Race parts for sale I have purchased the following package. Nismo High compression HR type heads, machined for oversize valves and high lift cams Titanium oversized valves Nismo GT300 double valve spring system New seats, retainers etc GT300 hollow cams with 268deg duration and 12.3mm lift inlet, slightly less on exhaust And all being ported and assembled to GT300 specs by an ex Nismo engineer Should compliment my NA build plans nicely! compression boost is 10.2 to 12.0, which saves me needing high comp pistons any time soon and the heads also ditch the VTC which means I wont need a new ECU to get them on and working - the UTEC should be able to get me most of the way there whilst I save for ITB's and a new ECU. Driftworks are amending the description to warn of this, also theyre redesigning the uprights for ABS and said I can have those when theyre done. Hopefully my mods solve it anyway. At idle you can barely tell it's running and it seems fine for a static dB test but above 4k something changes and literally all hell breaks loose, sounds like Mike Gardners on full chat from inside the cab lol Need to dB test it properly, but thinking of getting a bung made for cadwell just in case and then adding more silencing after cadwell if it proves to need it. fake ben taylor Posted May 28, 2016 Author Share Posted May 28, 2016 Had a trackday at Cadwell recently as a shakedown of the new wisefab setup and it was a mixed bag really, some good points and some bad. Pros: turn in and front end grip is INSANE, so so happy with it Cons: because the kit is designed for zero caster w have pulled the heel quite far forward in the arc to get 8deg caster, this meant on big corners that really loaded up the suspension, the wheel was hitting the back of the headlight/brackets and locking the steering. NOT GOOD! This was further compounded by the longer bottom arm and, frankly, ridiculous stance which has reduced the wheel rate of the suspension from 8kg to 6kg. Also after playing with ride heights to get the suspension to a point I could drive around the issues the brakes gave up the ghost so that pretty much ended the day. We are going to remake the upper arm with the caster built in to pull the wheel back nearer the centre of the arch, and also contemplating shortening the lower arm. The wheel rate of the suspension is also adjustable and its currently on softest setting. Brakes wise I got some new rear discs to go with the new rear pads I fitted just before Cadwell and some Carbon Lorraine RC6 front pads, also refreshing the fluid. Unfortunately I have been on holiday and then taking the Z to Le Mans so the wisefab mods are waiting till after that and I am cracking on with fixing the brakes before Le Mans. To pass the time in between Ive been taking a few pages out of DJTIMO's book and been stripping sound deadening out and also stripping the already peeling paint from the roof to vinyl wrap it. heres a few more pics. fake ben taylor Posted July 1, 2016 Author Share Posted July 1, 2016 Been a while since the last update, mostly it was a mad scamble to get the Z ready for a trip to Le Mans. Thankfully I got it all done and managed to do 1200miles in the Z across the trip. Exhaust bedded in nicely over the trip too and developed a lovely burble, Sadly also a rattle after I beached the car on a speed bump at the Chunnel! So some pics of the work. The main issue I had with taking the Z was the horrific brake judder from Cadwell. So to solve this I thought new pads at the front, these being Carbon Lorraine RC6, for anyone tracking their car Carbon Lorraine should be the pad of choice. No deposit issues, good feedback, and stable braking from cold to ridiculously hot, you'd struggle with the disc and/or fluid long before the pad! And I also went for new discs and pads at the back, only stovk here to shift the bias to the front, its always worked for me and Ive recently reasd the Z has a lot of rear bias as stock. Unfortunately when chenging the front pads the seals on the calipers had died so went for a full caliper rebuild, diy and my first time. To say I was nervous is an understatement!! first step was to pull all the pistons out IMG-20160607-WA0006 by ben taylor, on Flickr nicked one of the pistons so had to sand it smooth, thankfully none had any damage to the sealing face. Rinse and repeat on the other caliper. Took it out for a drive once finished and thankfully no leaks but struggled with bleeding the system and had an odd noise from the back, like an intermittant squeak. Haveing refreshed all the brakes I suspected wheel bearing so ordered one and booked into a friends garage for the morning we were due to leave for Le Mans. talk about last minute!
