Zeezeebaba
Has the DE got a pre and post Cat sensor set up. I've had the cats replaced and used the old sensors and now the lights come on. I'm thinking it's the sensor purely because the car still drives fine. Any input welcome
GMballistic
Yep two sets of O2 sensors for each bank. Did you put standard Cats on or change them for HFC's or similar?
Zeezeebaba
Standard cats with 35k miles on them mate.Car drives fine so I'm not to fussed.
GMballistic
You could always do the ECU reset to turn the EML off and then see if it comes back on again. Link: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/53148-how-to-ecu-accelerator-pedal-throttle-valve-resets/ Still maybe best to check the code if you can. Zeezeebaba
Cheers mate. Yeah I will get the codes read just in case and change the sensors in a few weeks if that's the case.
Adrian@TORQEN
You can video record the flashing light while doing the pedal dance if you don't have a code reader. It helps getting the exact error code
Zeezeebaba
Well I tried the reset no issues. A brief drive and the light reappears. Also she's running lean and drinking fuel. Time for a visit to my indy for a code read tomorrow. Also I now have a poxy knock from the front when coming to a standstill after reversing. Possibly just a heat shield but damn annoying. GMballistic
Yep I'd definitely get down the indy for him to have a look. Good luck.
Adrian@TORQEN
No need to go to a garage, use this to read to code: http://www.350z-uk.com/index.php?showtopic=110 As I said above, video the light flashing so you can check / recount in case you're not sure which code it is. True but if he goes to the garage hopefully he can get the car up on the ramps to investigate that knock while he's at it. Two birds & all that. Zeezeebaba
Cheers fellas.
Stutopia
Given they're OEM cats, seems weird to chuck an EML. I could be about to embarrass myself but is it not possible there's a leak either on the cats or, as they've just gone on, at the joins? Zeezeebaba
If the sensors are shot I'm fitting them myself anyway
Zeezeebaba
One of the cats that came off had a hole in it. It sounds sealed now the replacements are on so I reckon it's the sensor from the holed cat that's gone. We shall see
veilside z
Hope you get it sorted. If the light keeps reappearing, try spacing the sensors out before buying new ones.
Dashurik
Most likely old sensors are damaged after removal! Nissan recommends to change sensors if they were removed or new cats installed.Quoting words of one of the best mechanics on here. :-)
Zeezeebaba
Well I've got a cat efficiency issue bank 2 nearside. Cats probably knackered replacing the sensor won't help by the look of it. Bank was peaking and dipping continuously on the machine read out.
GMballistic
Well that's a bl**dy nuisance. Maybe try zmanalex for a good used condition standard Cat if that's the way you're going to go again.
Zeezeebaba
Nah time for some HFCs I think. Well in a few weeks. I'm just going to continue driving it until then as the cats already knackered. The irony is the old cat on that side was ok before I changed them over

Jay M1988
Ive decats and have the ecu code reader. Same sort of messages, 02 sensor below efficiency, too lean etc. Just learned to put up with it till the revup remap. Tried o2 sensor bungs n they did nothing after numerous ecu resets. Remember though Jay to periodically check the ECU codes as if you're driving around with the EML on constantly it could mask any other problems that might pop up otherwise. UpRev remap will sort it though you are right.
Zeezeebaba
I'm going to get under the car today and try to rule out any exhaust leaks post cat. Seems odd to me a cat with 35k miles on has failed.
Zeezeebaba
Since clearing the codes the check light had not reappeared. I wasn't convinced the cat was faulty as it was off a 30k mile car and very tidy. The light came on after a long drive initially so I'm thinking it's possibly heat expansion on the gasket causing an air leak. Since then I have only done short journeys and no light as yet.
