Andy
I have heard that there may be more than one option for the flap above the headunit where the satnav goes. Is this the case and if so, what are the options? Was one on imports or something?? Thanks in advance (Admin - Sorry if this is in the wrong room but seemed the best fit!!) Removed
the option is the retractable one that they mount with the accessory satnav unit
Andy
Thanks, do you know if you can buy this part seperatley. I found one last night in the States that claimed it was a motorised flap but it was about $280 or so!!
Removed
never heard of it being motorised! I'm sure you can get the parts froma dealer, you can ask Mr.F on here, he is usually cheaper than dealers
Andy
I love this forum!! This was the one I found.......... http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=68250-Z3306 I am feeling safe in assuming it doesn't have a motor more that it has a kind of release switch then cogs pull it up but it still seemed steep!! Chesterfield
Looking at that lower picture, it looks like it has an electric motor (notice the little red wire) I have not heard of, or seen that before. In my opinion the spring loaded ones are a bit feeble, so maybe this is better, but still $280 for that? Its quite expensive.
Removed
so has it always been motorised or only on the 06 Z then???? lol I learnt a new thing!
Andy
Have dropped them an email so will let you know what they say!
scott
If it's the same as mine the red wire is from the pressure switch that activates the screen when the cover is opened. Saves the screen being always on. Mine has now been ripped out and replaced with a touchscreen for the carPC.
Andy
Have you ripped the flap out as well or just the sat-nav??? If you have the panel I am very interested if you fancy flogging it!!!

Scott, was your flap motorised then???
scott
I am removing the dash to install some more wiring tonight so if I get a chance I will take some pics. The retracion is via a thick springed coil in the middle which pulls the rear of the front flap back, with speed controled by the cogged gear at each side. @ Andy I have re-used the flap to mount the touchscreen behind. LinITX 7" touchscreen fits perfectly behind existing opening.
Andy
No problem mate, sounds like a nice little project. If nothing else it is good to know I can mount one of my 7" screens in there for my sat-nav!! Thanks very much!
