samsniss350z
I wonder if anyone can help. Over the past couple of months I've encountered a knocking noise which seems to equate to the revolutions of the rear wheels. I think its coming from the offside rear wheel. I initially thought that it was the dreaded "clicky axles" but the noise continues all the way through the rev range. I don't think that its a rear wheel bearing as this would be a droning noise and not a knocking noise. Any help would be much appreciated as my MOT is due soon and i fear that this would constitute a failure. Something else which maybe relevant is that when i apply the brake pedal the knocking noise stops until i get on the gas again. Any ideas? 350zedd
Sounds brake related if the noise stops when the brakes are applied. Jack the car and rock the wheel first, to see if there's any play in the bearing. Remove the wheel and check to see if the bolts securing the brake caliper are tight. While you're at it, inspect the pads also. My daughter had this problem, but it sounded more like a heat shield was loose and rattling around. We discovered that the calipers were hanging off on both sides!!
samsniss350z
Thanks for that 350zedd I'll get it jacked up later today and check the callipers. The rear pads are OK as i checked these about a month ago and they had plenty of meat left on them. I'll post later to let you know how i got on. I'll also check the wheel bearings. This is the first bit of trouble I've had in 3 years of ownership so i can't really complain. Thanks again.
Piranha
I'm not sure if the 350z has a jack in the back of car, but I had a similar sound in my G35 and it was a loose jack.
samsniss350z
Its not a loose jack Piranha as the knocking is continuous under acceleration and stops when i dab the brakes. I think 350Zedd's reply is closer to the mark as the knocking speeds up the faster i go. I'll jack it up and crawl underneath it this weekend, supporting it with axle stands of course,
