AdrianL
Got the car MOT'ed and mapped today. Before map was 265bhp and after 293.8bhp so pretty happy! However they mentioned that both high flow cats are cracked. Is this a common issue for HFC's? or is it just the ones I have are crap? (no idea what brand). Not leaking yet fortunately but need to sort!. Cheers! Adrian
GMballistic
Do you still have the OEM Cat brace to support them or not? Just wondered if that might be what's caused them to crack where they have if you don't have the support. I'd say see if you can get them re-welded before the crack gets any worse.
AdrianL
I don't unfortunately. I was thinking of getting the crack welded. Could a bracket be welded on? No idea if the original brace is on, I guess not. Edited April 14, 2015 by AdrianL

kite 350
My kinnetix ones cracked a couple of years ago , the welds were very small just got them re welded had no problems since
Jetpilot
Good gains, what are the mods?
Keyser
Not that common to crack them - but like anything it can and does happen. What Y pipe have you got? The ones without flexis put more vibration into the CATs. Get those welded ASAP they should be OK.
GT4 Zed
Get them re welded and job done.
-Bradders-
what mods you got and where did you get it mapped?
AdrianL
Sweet. Will deffo find an exhaust place to weld them up Got it mapped at RS tuning in Leeds. Definitely happy with the gains!! Engine mods are: Injen air intake with kinetix upper plenum (filter is located behind front bumper) Borla high flow headers High flow cats HKS full stainless cat back Engine grounding kit Think that's it. It was running 265bhp before the map, so it lost a few horses over the years. Edited April 15, 2015 by AdrianL

If so that supports the brace issue mentioned before HFCs and not sure, they cracked along the seam just like in your pic, got the, welded up and they were fine Thanks Well the bloody CEL came back on today!! Did a few shorter trips without a light after the remap, but did 75 miles this weekend on the motorway, and when I started it up again the CEL came back on after a bit. This time the code is P1273 - no other codes but that one. Could it be related to the crack in the welds?

AdrianL
You don't remember what the code was do you?
spursmaddave
You don't remember what the code was do you? No sorry it was a long while ago Was something to do with the O2 sensors that's all I can remember which makes sense as the air flow was obviously affected
AdrianL
Hmm, the o2 sensor ones have gone thanks to the remap. I know the car isn't running lean as it was just mapped and the fueling looks fine on the graphs, so it must be the sensor? :S
