GT-Four

Well, since I sold the Skyline last November was at a loss at what to get next, nearly got an R34 GTT which was going cheap on the Skyline forum but couldnt quite bargain the guy down. Spent a fair while looking on the 300zx forum, wanted a Targa if I was going to get one (ruling out Lexx's machine - sorry mate - thanks for all the advice though!) but looked at a succession of horrifically rusting cars with terrible mods to them. Almost imported one, but suddenly this popped up for sale about 45 mins away from me so thought I might take a look.

Car is stunning, not a hint of rust, super clean bodywork, engine purrs. Owned by a car collecter who was selling it because his wife said 8 cars was enough, he has just bought an Escort Cossie in from Dubai and was spending all his time getting the sand out of it so didnt have time to keep working on this and it was parked in his lock up behind two 911s so wasnt getting used. I made a cheeky bid and he took it, picked it up this morning :teeth:

Very different experience to my cars that came before it (but thats the point I guess) with the 4WD I dont feel I am being shoved along the road like the RWDs that came before it but it picks up speed at an alarming rate you have to keep an eye on the speedo to stay legal. Have to say really like the seating position, I think Will might have difficulty as my head almost touches the roof but the driving position makes for a really sporty feel and experience, nice short shifting gears and rapid low gear progress.

Some photos from the advert below, once I give her a proper clean and wax will take some of my own, but heres to another car ownership experience :)

PS, aware that the looks are somewhat marmite but with the subtle body mods it works for me...imagine for a few it might not lol

I *think* I will put some Teins on it to drop it about an inch, plus some sway bars by all accounts these really get a lot of benefit from, but otherwise just going to drive it for now :teeth:

Nice one col.

Dad had the gt4 2 generations before that one and it was an absolute beast, held the road and flew along. Always remembered them from the

Old rallies in the 80's

Yours looks in good nick. How long will you keep this one :)

Who knows, its got 64k on the clock in miles but in terms of condition is very clean - so maybe I will keep it a bit longer!

Look's lovely, still have my GT4 sitting outside needing some love. In reference to the sway bars, just upgrading the rear makes a world of difference with understeer.

Anything else you can recommend? Its has had a full suspension replacement including fig 8s struts and springs, full caliper refurb, braided brake lines, all belts changed, rotor arm and dizzy cap, full silicone hose change, new exhaust, HKS dump valve, HID headlamps, new battery, water pump, thermo, ARB links. So he has done a fair bit of work...whiteline sway bar on the back I think as you mentioned, anything else a good must have?

Seems pretty well sorted to me, definitely good that all the suspension components have been changed. I changed everything when it got coilovers, costed a fortune. Polybushes will definitely make a big difference if they haven't already been done. It sounds like it has really been well looked after, good find

Very nice looking st205, and a great colour. I've had two st185 celicas in the past, the previous model that came with the full wide blown arches and pop up headlights. The first was a British supplied car which was badged as 4wd turbo, then the second came from a specialist Japanese car importer badged as GT four. The latter having a much higher spec being an import. What I don't understand is why Toyota dropped the power train models, the last being the st205 gt4. The replacements being the Celica190 T sport and currently the GT 86, neither having anywhere near the same power or 0-60 timing.

I had an ST205 not long ago as well as an ST185. The ST205 is a great car and a bit of an unsung hero in the turbo 4WD department. These can easily cane an impreza with a de-cat FMIC and an EBC @ 1.2 bar. I had mine up to 302 hp with the mods stated above. Did that all day long without any problems. The 3S-GTE is an awesome engine and the REV 3 that you have in yours responds really well to mods compared with the REV 2 in the ST185. You've got a really nice example there that are not often seen on the roads. I hope you have many years of happy motoring with it. It's a good choice.

a lot of people refer to that water intercooler as " the failure box " as it suffers quite badly from heat soak. Whether that's true or not I don't know but I changed mine for a Front mount inter cooler from an EVO 8. Also put a sports CAT (200 cell I think) with a 3" stainless steel system. Helped it breathe a bit easier and made a nice worble.

Thanks mate, yes it has a 3inch stainless on it and warbles very nicely - sports cat is on the list of mods also. Went through the very extensive receipt list last night, have about 60 receipts in total the guy spent a small fortune on it, found one for front polybush replacement so happy with that.

FMIC could be on the cards, lets see, I would like some springs on it plus maybe a front bumper lip for a bit more stance (hate that word and it wont be stupid low as I live in London) to give it more a sporty road look.

Properly gave it the beans on a country road yesterday, christ its quick off the mark, I think the imports were 256bhp as standard - be good to get it nicely setup and put on a dyno.

Yes, the imports had a different map for 101RON they use in Japan. The CT26 turbo (AKA CT20 but it's not as the CT20 is what you get on a Hilux) has a ceramic hot side impeller, so it's light to spool up. I did change mine for a steel impeller which of course is heavier but gives a bloody awesome whine when the party starts. They are quick off the mark as you say! 5.5 sec to 60 as standard with a good launch and gear change :teeth: If you want coil-overs, I had 2 sets of Tiens. The second set gave up after four years! So I didn't buy them again so I went for a set of BC coil-overs instead which were just as good which a new poly bush kit and track rod ends. The GT-Four can corner like a house fly.
