-Bradders-
I give in, i changed the oil again last night back to 5w30, reseated the plugs in 5-6, was fine on idle for about 15 mins, then started smoking bad again. Booked in with sly for the weekend!

RobPhoboS
At least you'll know what's causing the issue after he's looked it over. I think you were a bit daft for driving it hard whilst it's clearly not well, hopefully it's nothing serious at all

I wonder what the heck it is though, just seems weird that it's happened after plug/oil change. Then again one of my compression arms started knocking immediately after I changed the suspension, so could just be random timing.

-Bradders-
Potentially valve seals. thats what i was thinking. or a sticky valve as when its first started its ok. only after a bit it starts chugging. i was on par with the jet car at santa pod lol
Dicky
Did you check the PCV as Alex suggested in page 2. There's a vid on YouTube showing how to check their operation. If that's not working you will get smoke

Mark@Abbey m/s
Presume it needs to be at running temp before it smokes? Does it smoke all the time even at idle? Edited April 16, 2015 by Mark@Abbey m/s
-Bradders-
Presume it needs to be at running temp before it smokes? Does it smoke all the time even at idle? nope im starting to think its leaking in oil somewhere as its worse when its been left for a night or 2 as if its all settled somewhere then blows it out on startup?? -Bradders-
Just had a brain wave... i changed the oil filter, im pretty sure the oil filter is suppose to have a valve in it no? what if euros gave me a general one? would that cause smoke? Cheers. Brad
RobPhoboS
Find out what one they gave you JUST in case (although I'd assume they are roughly the same no?). I've used a Nissan one, one from Clark and just a few weeks ago one from Opie oils.
Ekona
No valve on the Zed oil filter. It's just a plain ol' lump.
-Bradders-
thought there was an anti drain back val e???
Ekona
It's a bog-standard filter for Jap cars, tbh there's at least 10 that I can think of that fit, just depends on the capacity you want from it. The same one that fits the Zed fits the Impreza, the MR2, the Mini... Proven and tested Trust me, that's not your issue. If the filter fitted, then it's fine.

Mark@Abbey m/s
Strange that it smoked after you changed the oil. Also strange your now saying it has not used any oil but has been smoking heavily.
