The_Lord
Hi fellas, The time has come to change my brakes - only front ones though as the rear ones still have plenty of meat on them. What do you recommend? Red stuff or yellow stuff? or maybe something else? Is it fine just to change the front pads or is it better to change both front and rear? Where do you recommend getting them from and can I fit them at my local mechanic or should I go to my specialist 350z garage? chrisday1990
Hey i used EBC Red stuff as they are a perfect compromise between the the rages, dont get the hard core stuff if you dont go on track as they are not required and can squeak, if your keeping origonal disks like me then after 400miles of bedding in the car hides its weight well if your running the Brombo set up even the OEM pads are quite good. I purchased my ones off Clarckmotor sport as they are quite competetive on price... just got Diff and Gbox oil and plugs for my HR £180.00 so all good. What plugs did you go for and how much did they cost you? I am thinking of changing mine as well.
GMballistic
I'd recommend Ferodo DS2500 brake pads.
The_Lord
I'd recommend Ferodo DS2500 brake pads. I heard they're too dusty and not really needed for a road car....
GMballistic
I'd recommend Ferodo DS2500 brake pads. I heard they're too dusty and not really needed for a road car.... I don't find them too dusty but then I regularly clean my car (every week). Oh well if you're set on the EBC ones then go for it.
Ewen@Clark Motorsport
Hawk Performance Ceramic are a popular option and great for fast road use. Not quite as good as DS2500 on the limit but are not a dusty pad.
chrisday1990
Clark motor sport advised on the best ones and they are not cheap in the HR... Awaiting delivery but give them a shout I can't remember what hey advised.
Rock_Steady
But aren't all pads dusty?
Kaveney
I have DS2500 and the stopping power when hot is amazing . Had them on my CTR as well . Did have yellow stuff pads before and were ok for the price but not as good as the DS2500
Kaveney
Just to note as well the DS2500 do give out a fair bit of dust and squeal even when bedding them in right .
The_Lord
I am not set on EBC or anything, I just want something that will bite properly in the cold and has good stopping power as my driving style is kind of spirited I do not do track days, I just do weekends when the weather is right and most of it on motorways, A and B roads. cmck13
Well just to throw another into the pot I've had yellow stuff on for the last 5 years good for normal and occasional track days never had one problem.

Thank you! This is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for. So +1 for EBC so far Did anybody ever use Hawk Performance Ceramic?
brillomaster
I've switched from ds2500s to ebc redstuffs on the front. the redstuffs are working out just fine for me - road use only, occasional spirited drive, but not generally hard on the brakes (save that for the track car, which runs yellowstuffs) no dust to speak of, and no squeal. the ds2500s used to squeal when they were cold, which was annoying. CS can get you a good price for EBC bits

Bodyboarder81
I've got the hawks and I'm pretty impressed with them .... No noise , low dust . As said not quite as good as 2500 but easier to live with.
ChrisB
+3 for EBC YELLOWstuff here too on a fast road going car. I'd recommend that the EBC BSD disks are good too. Conventional wisdom is the DS2500/T3 combo for a more track bias, but if you are predominantly road / daily driver, EBC is fine IMHO. I imagine Hawks are similar to EBC.
Kaveney
DS2500 are all round on my daily if you can live with the noise the best pad IMHO . Good when cold and better than most with a bit of heat in them . Alan
Kaveney
But more expensive so take your choice
The_Lord
I don't think I'll go for the 2500 anyway. IMHO they are more focused on track cars. I am just torn between the Hawks and the EBCs now.
MITZ@CougarStore
Fitting some EBC's this morning on a HR 350z, he's opted for redstuff...
RobPhoboS
I'm using the yellow stuff pads (just over a year), dusty as feck but I don't care about that. Just use Sonax full effect wheel cleaner Very good stopping power, especially when up to temp (well, that's all brake pads) but in my case I'm still trying to get the pedal rock solid near the top of the pedal travel (not the pads fault, just bleeding). But I'm tempted to try the DS2500's next. Edited April 10, 2015 by RobPhoboS
Kaveney
IMHO the DS250 is a step up on the Yellow stuff . Alan
