Daryl
Well on Friday I picked up my VX220, in resale silver, and drove from RAF Cosford to Shrewsbury, and then drove home to Milton Keynes this morning. However, it happens to be fitted with a stage 2 supercharger conversion, and developes around 240hp. First impressions are how solid the tub feels, but has Nitron suspension fitted, and flows pretty well down most roads, as the seller demonstrated when he took me down some horrible pot holed roads when he took me out in it. Brakes take some getting used to. Its running 4pot AP callipers, with carbon pads at the front. Trying not to mention the speed too much, as it probably goes without saying that its rapid, but it is rapid! Sounds like an ME109 coming in for attack when the throttle is pinned! Its not the most pristine body wise, but I can work on that myself, and I know a good body shop for spraying. Its got R888's fitted at the moment, but they are now below legal limit, as the previous owner put it through an MOT for me, and we agreed to go halves on the tyres, so that worked out well. Went for Federal 595 RSR's, as they seem to be the tyre of choice unless going for 888 and the huge price hike that comes with them. Though im guessing its the same with MPSS's etc, which seem to transform a car. Il get some pictures up when the car is clean, as its covered in dust and mud after we stayed in a big cottage place in Shrewsbury with a mile long dirt track as the only access. The Zed is staying for the time being, as id like to get that to a nice standard this year, and maybe sell it next year, but we shall see
Ekona
Welcome to the world of the Lego brick! Is it on Exige size wheels? Sounds like a cracker, if you get a chance take it to a Lotus specialist and get them to put the 340R road settings on it, absolutely transforms the car.
Daryl
Cheers Dan, iv got some new tyres going on this week hopefully, and id like to get under the car and have a look at what im dealing with, as id like to make the car look mint, as well as drive well, though saying that, i did promise the wife I wouldnt spend loads of money on it! lol Its on 16/17" Compomotive wheels, with some slightly illegal R888 tyres. Il hopefully get it back down to Courtenay Sport towards the end of the summer season, and get them to RR it again, and see what sort of power its putting out, and to makesure everything is healthy. Between bends its incredible, I just need to learn how incredible it is around bends too! -Bradders-
I wanted one of these when i was looking at the 350s!
Daryl
Totally different from a driving perspective Bradders, but its epic. Even the long drive from Shrewsbury to MK was not too bad once id got my coat on. Never thought id be happy to see gridlock on a motorway! Daryl
Hell yes. Mine has 240hp, and weighs around 850kg, so its pretty ballistic. Not that iv conducted any FF style traffic like GP's, but its night and day different. But its not as comfy

Daryl
If you throw enough money at anything it can be tuneable! lol You can get more from the 2l turbo without much work, but im not a fan of the turbo power delivery, the SC conversion on mine feels pretty OEM, apart from the whine, and the sheer speed it hauls you down the road. Ekona
Great wheels, they're copies of the original Speedlines for the VXR. Man I feel old, I remember when the original GB for those was happening! Very nice fella, well chuffed for you
coldel
Ha was waiting for this post Glad you are enjoying it mate, these cars are pretty epic as you say being stuck to the ground, inches above it, with tremendous speed capabilities it is a whole different world to the Zed - every petrolhead should own one at some point! Clearly the turbos benefit quickly in terms of tuning via remaps but the NAs have to go the supercharged route for some serious bhp increases. Although I have seen (and heard ) the ITB cars and they are pretty bloody impressive also.

blaqkaudio
Before my Dad unfortunately crashed his he had a black turbo mapped to around 240-245bhp sitting in the garage. Whenever he went on holiday I got insured for a week or two Would of bought it off him instead of the Zed if it was still around. Like people say it's a completely different experience and savagely fast.
Ekona
Every petrol head should own an Elise-chassis car once in their lives. There is nothing in the world that can compare to one.
un1eash
Would you say its quicker than a zed? This made me smile. My 111S is on par with a 350Z up to 100mph and a bit quicker to 60 which is pretty quick and I get left for dead by my mates Exige 240S which is what the op's VX220 is putting out power wise.
coldel
My bog standard NA VX220 'felt' on par with my Zed (although given the vastly different experiences who knows), bolting a supercharger on it, and then taking it to a stage 2 output hmmmm might make it a pretty potent weapon on the road - and yes, quite some distance faster than a Zed. First mod if it doesnt already have it is to change the heater tubing - god these cars can get cold!
Daryl
Iv seen that kit on Ebay Col, is it worth it? Will check it out again when i get home on to a computer
Daryl
Drove home in the wet last night and managed not to crash, which was nice! Got some 595RSR's being fitted hopefully at the weekend
coldel
First port of call is open the front and if there is a foil tube in there it needs changing for something more substantial! There is also a full heater replacement part which a guy on the forum makes, a big step up from the asthmatic standard one!
