Knocking at low speed :/ HELP!!

Hi guys,

Got my Z a few weeks ago and already having issues. I've noticed knocking at low speeds on uneven roads and was convinced that it was my drop links. Like many you see that many posts that once you see something you think it's something else. I've purchased new drop links however they weren't fitted at the weekend as when it was up on the ramp the existing ones seemed relatively new and my mechanic said he wasn't fairly certain it wasn't this. It appears all suspension/compression rods etc have been fairly recently replaced so all should be good but this is starting to frustrate me. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Yeah both sides are like brand new. The knocking is from the front left and this was replaced in December in last MOT. Only thing I can think is drop links as it sounds identical to a previous car that had the same noise but then I read about bushes, tie rods etc etc which makes me wonder where to start without spending £££ on solving the problem.

Yeah sorry to bring up a reoccurring topic. I've seen so many threads about it but can't find any videos like my noise. Might struggle for pictures but going a run to the shops now so I will try get a video of the knocking. In hindsight I should have taken some yesterday but the whole suspension set up is immaculate. The tie rods and ends will be replaced soon - any recommendations for upgrades in this area? But I'm pretty confident this isn't the issue.

Ok so replaced the drop links and no effect whatsoever. I've got pictures but I'm still trying to work out how to upload them. The Banana Bar looks fairly new (brand new compared to the drivers side) however we did have a wiggle with them and noticed that there was more play in the passengers side one (could rock it back and forth without a struggle). It just seems strange as it looks so new and I am hesitant to put it in a garage to get charged silly amounts for the problem to still be there!

Should not be any wiggle room! Before replacing my banana bars they could be rocked back and forth by hand, but I knew the knocking was coming from them way before that. If you are out in the car today, at low speed, with the knocking occurring, slowly apply the brakes and the knocking will completely stop. This is because of weight transfer, the front hunkering down, compressing the arms which means no wiggle room. (My thinking anyway!)

If this is the case you can be pretty certain its the banana's, I was quoted about £130 for just the arms fitment.

There were 2 brand new arms for sale on here at a bargain price, not sure if they are still about!

If not, :pmzmanalex: , brand new banana arms for £125 each, cannot go wrong!

  • 5 weeks later...

Having had most of them done and one being done this Wednesday, its either the 'straight' arms bushes, the banana arm ball joints or... a rarer one..the top mounts. Why do Nissan make such crap suspension parts lol
