coldel
Awesome Chris! Yes GMB thinking back to the 90s and late 80s the career advice (and availability of information) was so retarded compared to now. I loved astrology and dinosaurs as a kid (who didnt!) at age of 8 or something knew at least hundreds names of dinosaurs, in latin as well etc! But I had a natural knack for numbers so of course teachers 'guided me' to do something mathematical. Right now, I hate numbers
WhackyWill
Structural design or pictures? Sorry, I'm reverting to type (my previous career was in civil engineering). Am now a maths teacher. Now about those school designs.... One good one in my last school was the radiators in the ceiling!! I'm a civil engineer working as an architect but my job title is 'Landscape Architect' ... rads in suspended ceiling - yea we do that ! I also own a Company called Architectural Restorations. Will, do you have a website? It's something I have a keen interest in and it would be interesting to see some of the work you do. Also what series of racing do you have cars in? What cars do you run? Any photos? Hi Neil. Architectural Restorations doesn't have a web site. We specialise in renovation of mostly historical buildings we supply specialists in gilding, special paint finishes, plaster work restorations, we work with English Heritage on projects. We did the main areas at the Carlton Club, The East India Club, The Reform Club. Mostly City based old fashioned clubs. This started out as a hobby many years ago, I kept the Team together and its a bit like painting the forth bridge now. We ran a Lola T332 Formula 5000 in the Derek Bell Series driven by Tony Trimmer. I have been involved with Tony throughout his racing career. If you go to Tony's FB page lots of pics on there.

Fairly standard desk based financial and project management type work, but every so often we have a nice car in the workshops - have an F-Type R coupe in at the moment, had a McLaren P1 in the other week!

ilogikal1
After 11 years working for a financial adviser network, I'm currently looking for a career change. Wish I had received better guidance when younger to have better realisation of all that was out there, I would have followed another career course, Maybe it's different nowadays but when I was at that age (mid 90's) it was rubbish guidance anyway. I couldn't agree more with that on both fronts; the careers "advice" I got was virtually non existent, around the same time as Granville too. That lack of direction earlier in my life has pretty much left me at a point now where I don't have the qualifications I need to do what I want now. It's not the end of the world because there are always ways around that but it does make that much more difficult.

Keyser
To add to the careers advice comments - I went to school (secondary at least) in Wales in what was then a market town (that being a farm market) The Advice was very good it went like this - Male - Son of a farmer? a.) Yes - Take over your dads farm b.) No - Here is a booklet on the military c.) Marry a farmers daughter. Female - Daughter of a farmer? a.) Yes - Marry (see "c" above) take over dads farm b.) No - Marry a farmers son c.) Get pregnant, get a council house and sit back (not sure if that was actually advice given out but it seems to be a career that a large percentage followed.) or am I just cynical? Wendy
I was not supposed to work - seriously the school I attended was to Bring up Young Ladies, who married where the necessities where to be able to host the Dinner Parties that my future Husband required for his Business associates. Yes, I did all the walking with books on your head to make sure you asked tall etc. I have a trail of elocution certificates.!!!!!! Most of my peers followed this course. I was working from the age of 12, in restaurants at 16 and pubs from 18 much to my headmistresses horror.!!!! My school projects were often car related and I ended up marrying a mechanic !!!! To be fair to my schooling, did however, give me the confidence and teach me the ability to knock on doors and walk into the unknown, no matter how scary. Somehow I have done ok despite working all my life and mostly on my own (Hubby did not last long !!! : ) I am just chuffed with myself, did not think I would ever get to the stage of being able to own 2 cars, let alone travel to some amazing places. I do not have regrets, but do feel, I could have had a more challenging career and something significantly more interesting than accounts. Next time around - I am coming back to Race Rally cars................
twobears
Keyser, yes, I'll say it - "You are an old cynic" Got to admit that my plan was always to marry either a farmer or a vet. Didn't work out very well as Mr Twobears doesn't know one end of a turnip from the other My best friend is a landowner and large scale farmer though and he is very well trained. I just texted him to tell him I was missing him so could he call round and bring me some wheat (for my ducks and geese) and he was here with 10 mins, bless him
Neilp
Is that all he's coming round for? You knew that somebody would mention this, especially after saying you planned to marry a farmer, and then calling him round when the hubby is out at work haha oi oi
