Spatt
I bought a new phone charger for my car becuase the old one fell to bits (love amazon) and when i went to fit it i noticed some of the old charger was still rattling around in there so just threw it out. Anyway i plugged the new one in and its not powering it ! Is there a fuse or something i need to check? where are they located? i dont know the first thing about electrics, i cant even change a bulb without breaking it cheers, Matt
glrnet
Sounds like you blew the fuse when the other one fell apart, can't remember which fuse it is, I'll see if I can find out before someone who knows turns up It's in the footwell fuse box, to the right of your right foot on the sidewall, it has a little flap door affair, don't know the number but there should be a list on the other side of the cover, it'll be a 15amp fuse (green)
steve916
Silly question, but are you switching the ignition on? My 12v sockets don't power up with ignition off.
Spatt
yeh ignition on.. think the actual socket part is broken tbh.. I'll try the fuse first tho thanks Graham
glrnet
If the socket part is broken, there's a very good chance it the fuse will pop again if not as soon as you replace the fuse but when you pluf the new charger in. Can you post a picture of the socket?
Spatt
Ok i got some pictures... i cant remember what it looked like before but does this look broken?
steve916
Looks ok to me. Did you check fuses? Could be that the new charger plug doesn't fit deep enough to reach the centre pin, if the fuses are ok.
Spatt
still need to check the fuse.. there was something rattling around in the bottom of the socket and i just threw it away thinking it was part of the old charger.. hope it was haha
