california987
Hi, My car is needing new brakes, so I am going to order the parts online. The problem is that I do not know if it is the front or rear, and if I need new discs or pads. When I brake under 10mph, you can hear the rubbing. With my previous car, when I hit the brake peddle it would only engage the front brakes, rears came on with the handbrake. Is the 350z the same? So therefore, as I get the noise only from my brake peddle and not the handbrake, it is likely to be the front? Should I just order discs and pads, rather than just swapping pads? I have the car booked in for next Friday, so I will order the parts online prior to that. The reason I am not having it done all by the garage is that last time I had them done, he quoted me over 400 pounds more than if I had bought the parts online and just paid for his labour! Any help would be appreciated
MITZ@CougarStore
I'd be inclined to have the brakes inspected first, before purchase, so you know what you need to buy... Let us know if we can help with the brakes...
Ekona
With my previous car, when I hit the brake peddle it would only engage the front brakes, rears came on with the handbrake. What was this car, and more importantly when the hell was it made?! Must've been a proper old car. As for your brake issue, take the wheels off and have a look. It'll be reasonably obvious which pads have material and which ones don't, and the ones that don't have probably eaten the discs too. Bems
All rear brakes do some of the work they aren't just there for parking up. It's normal for the front to go first as they do the majority of the work. Your service record may point you in the right direction but as already said its best to remove a front & rear wheel & physically look. Should be pretty obvious. If your getting a scraping noise there's a good chance that both pad & disc requires changing.
california987
Thanks for all the help guys, I just went out and can see visible scratches on the rear, so I am assuming it must be the two at the back need doing. I will order some OEM discs and pads now
KyleR
Bring the car to a different garage that won't rip you off, ask hem what you need, contact CS above to buy the parts and then get the garage to fit it all. Simples! Unless of course you are reasonably close to Leicester, then just go see CS and he'll to the lot for ya

I will order some OEM discs and pads now bad idea - i would speak with CS first as OEM aren't always best, nor the cheaptest!
Danny Mingle
Don't just purchase on the get-go. You could be shedding out more money than what you'll be able to save. I'd have that checked then order (if needed), if I were you. And for reference, I order from partsgeek. their rates are like the ones from auto parts warehouse, which I think is nice. Toon Chris
And just for reference, the Z uses a separate brake shoe system for the handbrake.

Daryl
Where are you based? Im sure a club member would be happy to come and have a look for you and tell you want actually needs doing? Failing that, there are various Zed specialist garages around that could help you out
