"was" being used where "were" should be

interesting example.

Agreed it's gramatically OED type wrong. But it's SO common and frequently used by the people here I have figured it's up there same as having an accent or a type of regional slang.

Same with the greeting of 'orrite'

Also language also evolves so grammatical changes don't have a fixed rule for all variations.

I'll frequently try write a text in full emoticons, just like they did back in the days of the Pharaohs.

You see, it's apathy like that which got "literally" re-defined to mean literally anything these days. :stir:

OMG. hearing 'literally' gives me the shits. it's not a literal! but i'm gonna have to bend over and take it with a smile coz it's now officially a metaphor.

:teeth:

Knew you'd bite ;)

Yeah, I admit I used to think you were a bit rude, but now I've just gotten used to your posting style and I 'get' you now and consider you a friend. Also you're like my pet project, and getting you into MPSS was just the start: Soon I'll have you posting like a proper grammar nazi :D

Nope

Merged for context.. :teeth: Just me riding rough shod over quotation rules.

I'll respond to your question if you quote me GOOD

Triple quote iPad multi-page finger work..

I bet you are going to say I was wrong now, anyway..

Nope

...start: Soon I'll have you posting like a proper grammar nazi

Capitalisation directly after a colon, then lowercase 'nazi' instead of captialising the name 'Nazi' ?

IMO it should be a semi colon anyway, and yes, the sentence after a semi colon should start with a lower case letter; and the word 'Nazi" should of course begin with a capital N ... but it's not the glaring error I was referring too !

It's an Americanism, so barely acceptable. Referring to gotten, sorry.

Hugh has kindly pointed it out to me via PM, but I've left it up to see how quickly someone else finds it.

Ha ha, I typed the very same thing a couple of days ago and then deleted it :)

This could get silly, but forgive me if point out that 'semi colon' is questionable at best. Ideally, it should be 'semicolon' or 'semi-colon'; and did you deliberately misuse 'too'? ;)

No-one's? Why the hyphen?

no body, some body, and some one have evolved into the compound words nobody, somebody, and someone, the similar phrase no one has never gone this route so no one is correct, and so is no-one; but not noone

The number of edited posts after such learned responses is hilarious.. just sayin' (<- wash my mouth out)

Of course there was Dan's " 'Cos' ", but that was just a vernacular contraction, and thus for dramatic effect - therefore probably not transgressive?

It's a slippery slope mate. :) Having been such a smug twit, I will now feel obliged to check all of my posts over and over again. :)

That's a mammoth task for me ... last time I know I made a mistake was 1967 ;):teeth:

which of your children are going to disown you for that statement
