Mike Rosie
Hi guys Bought a Z yesterday and overall it's a fantastic car, well looked after and brilliant for its age. I noticed one of the tyres had a small bald patch on it and gathered it had been repaired. Upon closer inspection today I've noticed a (w)hole load more repairs with at least 4 on one of the tyres. Front passenger side Rear passenger side Front drivers I know it's illegal in the UK to repair them this way but does that make it illegal (potential insurance issues) to run them? It's a shame because they are MPSS on the rear and MPS3s on the front. What do you think about them? Ekona
No way in hell I'd be driving on them. Garages aren't allowed to do that for a very good reason, and I strongly suspect that your insurers wouldn't approve either. Give them a call to confirm that, if you're brave enough. Also, read the Sticky about mixed tyres too.

350zedd
Are you sure they are not just scuffed? I cant tell properly from the pics.. If they have been repaired then get shut, replace them with new tyres. Don't gamble with your life!!!"
Mike Rosie
Ok guys, thanks. So what do you think the story is with these? Part worns bought on the cheap? Are you sure they are not just scuffed? I cant tell properly from the pics.. If they have been repaired then get shut, replace them with new tyres. Don't gamble with your life!!!" 350zedd
Still difficult to judge without seeing them in the flesh. Go to a "reputable" tyre dealer and get them to give them the once over. They will be able to tell you if they have been repaired or not. Lots of cash to replace them but you only have one life!
ioneabee
that's the weirdest thing I've seen on a tyre - would be interested to know what the outcome of this is
RobPhoboS
Yeah as others have said, get them taken off the wheels and inspected.
JetSet
that's the weirdest thing I've seen on a tyre - would be interested to know what the outcome of this is Certainly is. I once had a tyre wall puncture repaired but that was back in 1972 and even then I struggled to get anyone to do the repair. Of course I never put it back on the car, just threw it into the boot as my spare. From my recent experiences if you get a puncture then the tyre fitter will closely examine the inside of the tyre to look for damage through overheating and won't repair them if they spot anything. I'm not too sure they're scuffmarks either, most likely rejects or seconds that have found their way onto the market. In any case they need checking by a qualified tyre fitter ASAP, Pete
Mike Rosie
Ok, thanks for the replies, I've not seen anything like this either. I'll get them to a tyre garage to see what they say today or tomorrow - I'll let you know how that goes. In the meantime I'll get some new tyres on order because whether they're scuffed or pierced/repaired, I'd imagine they are greatly weakened. Mike Rosie
So, managed to get to a garage today and he confirmed all the issues are indeed repairs. Crazy. He also highlighted that the speed rating on the fronts was wrong, V not W+. I've ordered a set of MPSS for 518+fitting off Openeo When I swap them I'll post a few pics of the inside. Thanks all! Ebized
I'm suspicious they are retread tyres Scroll down the offerings on here and you will see 'yours' in the available sizes for roughly half the price (at best) of the genuine item and my guess is that for copyright reasons they have to remove part of the sidewall description so as not to suggest they main brand manufacture. http://www.tyresavin...es-and-savings. Glad to hear you are replacing them

Mike Rosie
Ok, so over the weekend I got the tyres changed so I could have a look at the state of the inside. I found that to my (very untrained) eye nothing seemed out of the ordinary on the inside. You can see the ribs/beads continue as normal where the apparent repair is on the other side (outside). However, all 4 tyres were: The rubber did seem a little softer over the 'bad' patches but perhaps I'm imagining it! Can anyone shed some light on this? Cheers
SHEZZA
I'd guess that chunks have been taken out of the outside. Then Someone dodgy has patched them up and sold them on as part worn's
Mike Rosie
Yeah, that seems the most plausible at the moment I guess. Dodgy world, part worn tyres.... Edited February 17, 2015 by Mike Rosie
