Sethyd
Hi, really new to this forum and 350z's. Just wondered if anyone knows exactly what the noise is on my 350z. When I'm in neutral without foot on clutch I have a bearing type noise, it's not really loud but disappointing. I have only just got it and today drove it hard, ever since this noise has been there. Noise disappears when I push clutch in. Gears work well no slipping etc. I still have warranty as just got it, so wondered if firstly the garage would do anything about it secondly how long will it last / is it a big problem. Is there a quick fix or is this the release bearing ? Car is a 56 plate with only 39,000 MLs, will it get worse and is there anything I can do now or do I wait until clutch packs up? Very frustrating as car drives so well etc. Any help / advise would be much appreciated

Sethyd
Damn, new clutch or just bearing ?
MCook
I thought the 'tapping' noise that disappears when the clutch is pressed is a common 'trait' of the zed..? Mine has always done it, the zed is known to have a noisy gearbox....?
Martin_t5r
Just a bearing by the sounds of it
Sethyd
Is it poss to just replace bearing ? Is it expensive ?? Cheers
Jp606
Normal noise, they all do it.
Will370z
If you can, find another zed (good chance for a little impromptu meet) and listen to see if it sounds the same or get one of the members from here to listen. I think you will find it will sound the same. I thought as you did that something was wrong as the noise was unnerving. When I depressed the clutch the noise went, when up there seems to be lots of chatter. but then I found it was one of the characteristics of the car and that they all did it. Just make sure it is that and not something more serious.
Ebized
Common 'issue' that normally does not need work done, unless it really bothers you and as some have found replacements can make the same noise! http://www.350z-uk.c...ng#entry1298330
Sethyd
Thanks! The noise sounds like metal rubbing or something spinning and when I turn the engine off the noise comes to a stop too. The car sounds great, drives well no gear slip etc just this rumble type noise when clutch is out? Just wondering if it's a slippery down slope to clutch going completely, or will it go on like this for ages. Garage might say car is fine but worried I should be trying to get this sorted on warranty ??
Will370z
Honestly from what you describe it sounds normal to me, but as I mentioned for peace of mind compare it with another zed
Stutopia
Feels like normal Zed noise, mine did it before the clutch was replaced and still did it after. Get a vid up.

350zedd
As others have said, noisy clutch release bearing..... its a common trait on all zeds. My 07 does it at 35k......its part of the zed experience
Shenley
My 350 from new on an 09 plate and 12,000 does it too. Can't remember a time when it didn't.
chirag1988
As others have said its a normal noise for the zed. I thought the same too in mine but it just had a noisy clutch lol
Zedd
Yup, mines the same! Zeds arent renowned for quiet clutches
JEMAN
And mine........2003. 50k on the clock.........I wouldn't worry. .....enjoy your stunning Z.....HAPPY DAYS
Zeezeebaba
Just bearing chatter by the sounds of it,mine does it. My M3 did it too.Certainly nothing to worry about at the moment loads of rear drivers do it. Should disappear if you rev it and the shaft takes up the slack. zippypooz
The zed is known for noises within the gearbox, i wouldnt worry too much, maybe take is to a trusted garage and ask if youre worried about it.
Rock_Steady
Mine too!! it's so common that if it weren't doing it... I may be worried
gareth29
Mine doesnt make any noise - maybe theres something wrong with it!
AMT
If you want to set your mind at rest take a high quality video and put it up so we can hear it clearly but if its what we all think it is, its just part of the MANY noises the Z makes lol Foot on the clutch it should go away, but even when its off it shouldn't be 'that' loud. (makes me wonder without this forum or others advice how many poor people have been shafted from garages with big bills for that). As long as the clutch feels ok and no issues engaging gears etc Edited February 12, 2015 by AMT
zippypooz
Mine doesnt make any noise - maybe theres something wrong with it! Hmmm you have a duffer there...scrap it!!
JetSet
Both of ours do this. The 313 is noisier than the 276 by some margin...both have around 20k on the clock. Pete
