kkong6
Engine fault code diagnosed on a 350z gt4 2005. Getting really frustrated with this car now As above fault code read on a "snap on modis ultra" code "P1078 - exhaust valve timing valve circuit - bank 1" Does anyone know which specific part and area in the engine bay it's located? A picture diagram etc etc would be really helpful. And nissan aren't really helpful as I gave them the fault code and description and they looked absolutely clueless... Weren't willing to help unless booked in for their own diagnostics Any help much appreciated
ZMANALEX
Could well be a faulty cam position sensor which is on the rear of the cyl. head. Bank one is driver's side if RHD. Alex.
karlh
The following is based on the US Nissan 350Z Service Manual: There are two cam sensors at the rear of each bank of cylinders. The inboard sensors, behind the inlet camshafts, are called the camshaft position sensors (phase) by Nissan. The outboard sensors, behind the exhaust camshafts are the exhaust valve timing control position sensors. The sensors themselves are all identical. Your problem could be with either the position sensor or the timing control sensor in bank 1.
kkong6
Think I'll buy 1 sensor to try out, swap the sensors over and see which particular sensor it is. I only have this to work from

karlh
kkong6, The diagram you posted is for the earlier VQ33s without variable exhaust valve timing. I recommend you visit this web site: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-350z-factory-service-manuals.html and download a complete service manual. While the manuals are for US spec cars, the differences in you case will be negligible.
