Lexx
Does anyone have any experience of mobile axle stands like the ones cj autos sell? My garage is too narrow to get the wheels off in it. I've now got all the bits to do my rear suspension overhaul including removing subframe. My plan was to back the car out of the garage, jack it up, put it on axle stands, do some work, but when it's time to put back in the garage jack it up and put the rear end on the mobile stands and then push car back into the garage. Once back inside I'd put it back on normal axle stands. Repeat procedure for as many days as needed. Before I go buy one I'm wondering if anyone has good/bbad experience with them. http://www.cjautos.eu/product_p/cm05b.htm Edited January 27, 2015 by Lexx
AliveBoy
link appears to be broken. Not used them myself, would be interested to hear about them too

Daryl
Not sure id want to wheel my car in and out on them to be honest. They maybe fine, as the weight of the car will probably hold it on them anyway, but if they gather momentum and they start going wayward, how are you going to stop them? Daryl
Why not get a canopy or gazeebo to put over the car while its on normal axle stands on your drive?
Lexx
majority of my drive is on a slope. There's a 2m area in front of the garage door that would allow me to wheel out the cars back end and still be on a level.
Daryl
Ah ok, is the drive pretty flat, as in , not lumps and bumps, and what is the transition like into the garage?
SteveM
i would imagine that anything other than a smooth finish with no transition or any lumps or bumps would cause issues rolling that about
ZMANALEX
Surface must be flat and free of pebbles. Steel castors jam at the least obstacle, so heavy duty nylon or plastic is the way to go. Avoid rubber castors as they flat if left insitu for a period of time. The heavy duty mobile stands are the way to go. I use these and the dollies with great effect but only on a flat concrete surface for nearly a 2 ton car.
Lexx
Thanks Alex. Great info. Yeah, garage floor and drive entrance is pretty smooth and flat, and there's no transition. I see that Frost sell some heavy duty ones with nylon wheels.
