Mikev350z
Good Afternoon. Just wondered if anyone has heard of this. I have a taking noise on acceleration, could almost sound like tappets coming from the plenum area. Nearly through 2000-3000 rpm. I checked the oil and topped it up as it was on the low mark. The ticking is still there. Also notice it again through 5000rpm then goes away. Thought it maybe something to do with a chain guide or something when the oil is low but I topped it up and it's still doing it. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator? Any thoughts please it's driving me mad.
ZEUS
When you say the oil was low, the oil light didn't come on did it?
Zedd
How low was it, on the low mark? If you know what I mean. Edited January 21, 2015 by Zedd
Paddy78
You shouldn't be able to hear the fuel pressure regulators in the cabin (Unless you have the door / window open and the bonnet up). Sorry I can't be of more help, I'm sure someone will be along with some proper advice.
glrnet
It could be the fuel pressure regulator, get someone to sit in the car and rev to 2000k while you hold the fuel regulator, you should be able to feel the ticking if it's the fuel regulator. Hopefully you haven't done any damge with low oil, how much did you put in when you topped up?
Mikev350z
Thanks for the swift replies everyone. No low oil light came on. The oil was on the low mark. Topped up with just under a litre. I will see if I can feel the fuel pressure regulator ticking tomorrow and let you know. Couldn't be the timing chain or anything could it? Any Zed owners Essex way if with a bit of knowledge I dont mind meeting up to see if you can hear it and help.

Zedd
Maybe you could upload a video, so we can hear. Hopefully its not because of the low oil!
GIXXERUK
I take it... it makes the noise if the car is static and you rev it ?

Mikev350z
Ok will try to get a vid up. Doesn't happen at standstill so much. Engine has to be under load.
Mikev350z
Just a thought after researching. Could it be that my heater core of the cooling system needs a back flush? Something to do with a valve flapping causing the noise and some black silicon jamming it up or something???
Tricky-Ricky
Is it a fast or slow ticking? posting a video would be a good idea.
Mikev350z
The ticking is rhythmic with the engine which its a bit worrying. More of a tappy noise really. Going to Abbey Monday to see if they can work it out for me hopefully :-s
HassanZ
If you topped up just under a litre of oil to get it back to the full mark on the dipstick then you should be fine. It takes about a litre of oil to travel between min and max markings on the dip sticks.
