Mstevens
Just wondering what it will take to put a VK45DE engine into a 350Z. Instead of going the FI way. They used it themselfs in the 350Z Super GT car. Motorsport The VK45DE was previously used in Nissan's 350Z Super GT car, replacing the previous VQ30DETT used in that car in 2007. In race trim, the Super GT VK45DE produces 500 PS (490 hp) and 52 kg·m (510 N·m; 380 lbf·ft) of torque.[2] The engine idles at around 3500 RPM and is restricted to the above specified power output. Without such restrictions, the engine is reputedly capable of producing nearly 800 PS (790 hp).[3] Nismo reasons that by using the engine, they eliminate turbo-lag, save weight and generally prefer the torque curve of the atmospheric V8. GMballistic
Hhhmm I'd guess it will take a lot of money. You can get a Brian Crower stroker kit for the VQ35DE which can increase the capacity to 4.15L. Add different cams etc for more performance and I'd imagine that would be a cheaper option than a race spec VK45DE. Not sure how that would compare to the above though power wise. GMballistic
No wonder you're asking about that, ...does sound pretty awesome for £8K odd. Pretty sure it won't be a simple plug & play job though. Hopefully some other more knowledgeable members regarding engine swaps will pop in. Lexx
Have a look at the V8Nissans forum, and HybridZ forum. It's been done in the US. Simpler to do a LSx conversion though as the kits are already on the market for the conversion.
ilogikal1
Looks like a straight swap to me.... (please do it anyway, OP, I'd love to see that engine swap done!).
ZMANALEX
For track or race use this might be a goer, however if for road use and an idle of 3500 then I don't think so. This is similar to proper N/A power upgrades where the idle was a huge issue. LSX or ST or TT is the way to go.
Mstevens
Track or race is the plan.
Jez @ H-Dev
They only make around 340bhp standard - to get to 400+ is going to cost a lot of money...
