newkid
Hey, had a problem about 5 days ago where car wouldnt start in the morning, no warning lights or anything and all the dash lit up fine, tried it about 5 times and then it fired up and went. Have just finished work and it wont go at all. Again all lights are on and battery seems ok, i can hear the solenoid click when i turn the key but engine does absolutely nothing. Not trying to turn over or anything. Now stuck in the pouring rain in the dark and trying to bump start it. Could it be a loose connection or is the starter motor gone ? Voltmeter sits at 12 when ignition is on and drops just a smidge when i turn headlights on so i think battery is ok?
newkid
Quick update. I have managed to bump start it and drive it home. I switched it off and restarted and again not start. Tried again and it started without any delay? WTF is going on ?
Neilp
Sounds like it could definitely be the battery to me. These cars do weird things when the battery is duff. The cold really kills them off.

Neilp
Nope, battery isn't producing enough crank power to turn it over.
newkid
Nope, battery isn't producing enough crank power to turn it over. Righto, ill try the battery before anything else then. Cheers bud.
jimboy2
Sounds like battery. Doesn't it need more than 12 volts to start?
ZMANALEX
Battery faulty, battery connections, starter faulty, starter connections, engine earth/ground. However as others have said probably the battery.
glrnet
As Neil said, if your battery is weak the first cold weather always finds them out, check that first, then check alternator output too. ChrisS
Sounds like it could definitely be the battery to me. These cars do weird things when the battery is duff. The cold really kills them off. As Neil and others have said. First couple of days of cold finds them out. (over the next 3 months there will be 3 or 4 will ask the same question and a lot who will just get a new battery having read your thread)
Grundy
Do you become a Mod if you have experienced the a battery issue?
-Bradders-
If battery seems ok and you can start it with a bump, then i would say sticky starter, it sounds like it dont like the cold lol.
martybhoy
I had pretty much the exact same symptoms. It was a dead battery. It had got to a stage it wouldn't hold enough juice to turn over. I'd say go for a battery!
newkid
Thanks for replies guys, have a bosch battery on order, failing that i will try the starter motor connections.
