As long as you weren't involved :)

The traffic was that bad I wrote an email to Keyser

Took over an hour to do a 5 min journey. One lane closed that being the outside lane of all lanes.

Thanks for thinking of me tho bro

The thing that really pi**es me off about these things is all the rubber necking that goes on making it worse for the commuters than it actually needs to be.

For example ~ early October when I was going to Chieveley there was an accident near the Brynglas tunnels. I was travelling from Cardiff and the accident was actually on the other carriageway but for some reason it took us over an hour to do 15 miles.

As soon as we passed the accident spot on the other side of the road the traffic sped up and we where doing 60mph+ just after the accident scene.

Anyway rant over ~ hope nobody was injured in today's accident on the M40.

I have said all along that widening 2 lane roads into 3 lanes is pretty much a waste of time and money. As soon as an accident occurs it creates a pinch point. I was recently held up for over an hour on the 4 lane Thellwell Viaduct just because a vehicle had overturned and was blocking just one lane and because it was 4 lanes the emergency services decided to park on two of the other lanes leaving just one lane free. Yes, if a road has reached saturation point then widen it by all means, this of course will cause several years of misery and delays and by the time its finished it'll be saturated again. There are plans to widen the road by us The A55 in North Wales to 3 lanes despite the fact it only really gets busy for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening and on Saturdays and Sundays during the school holidays. The cost of widening the tunnels around Conway would be truly horrendous, into the billions and a breakdown would cause exactly the same chaos as it does now. It is a very important road though as it carries freight traffic to Ireland at least that's what the Welsh Government tells us but there are only 2 freight trips a day, one of these being around Midnight!!

The thing about Motorway accidents is that there is often nowhere the traffic can go, they can stop people from joining the motorway and you can close the motorway at an exit but the poor sods who are stuck between exits have to sit there until the road is cleared. Quite often they will close the other carriageway too and they can't really turn the traffic around and escort it back to the previous junction I once got stuck for 4 hours on an elevated section of The M6 around Birmingham on a stinking hot day because of a serious accident a couple of miles ahead of me.

It grates me also sat behind rubber neckers. Driving 4mph just to see the accident! These people need their licences removed.

Problem is now that when an accident occurs there's so much recording, statements, pictures, police, ambulance activity that a simple solution to move the vehicles now takes 3 hrs.

I actually returned back home Monday morning due to an accident involving 3 cars and one lane shut. 10 mile tailback, just not worth it. Luckily I can work from home.

There are some terrible drivers on the roads these days.

If all HGV's were stopped from driving during Rush Hour times, surely this would help the flow of traffic hugely ?

I know 2 HGV drivers, who both think this and believe it would make sense.

Of course logistically for the HGV firms it might prove a nightmare. But surely something could be worked.

In Berlin if you're a trucker in rush hour you're not allowed to overtake another truck. This of course is on the motorways in and around Berlin.

Works really well.

If say trucks are permitted but with the above rule.

That would work and keep the HGV firms happy too.

If there are a line of Truckers to contend with, motorists might think twice before some of the awful antics that regularly happen entering or exiting motorways.

Although I could see there would be some mega angry Truck drivers with this too a I am sure it would not stop everyone from cutting them up.
