kellz3-3
I have had the nissan for just over 1 month...I have gone through just under 2l of oil so far. I can't see any obvious sogns of an oil leak. Is this a normal amount? Thanks!
glrnet
What year and model? Welcome by the way
brillomaster
what year/engine do you have? some engines use more oil than others... i have a DE and it doesnt use any at all. but even so, 2 litres in a month is definitely high!
GMballistic
Which 350 is it please? DE, DE RevUp or HR? Also how many miles are you doing? hard driving? I would say that is a lot of oil to be using in a month. My 2003 DE does use a bit of oil but nothing like that.
ATTAK Z
Anything over 1 litre/1000 miles and I'd be worried
KUGT4
bought 40 litres for topup and servicing - do around 80 miles/day topup with 1/2 litre min every 2 weeks cheaper than a new engine
Jud1
Yeah mine uses too ... 03 JDM 'DE - as she's not my daily, I haven't quite figured out how much - but I do check her each time (ish) and have had to top her up a smidge - maybe 1/4 ltr over 3>400miles - "spirited" ... though, I was getting an oil smell in the car and I figure I may not have gotten the dip stick home correctly when I checked her over/buying and used a bit there... Sounds high, but seems like your checking it regularly ... I've seen higher visc mentioned in a few threads, and thinking I might give that a whirl. (I've had mine 3 weeks)
choptop
The earlier cars use more oil but even with a high mileage car your oil consumption is excessive. Seek professional advice
Dynamic Turtle
Could just be that the existing oil is completely degraded and needs changing. I've noticed that after 6000 miles my DE starts drinking it, 1.5l in the last 1000 miles alone. If it's still consuming that much after an oil change you either have a more serious problem or need stop changing gear at 6000rpm every single time. Dynamic Turtle
Should state that it should easily last 9000m service iservial driven with respect haha
The Trouser
Anything over 1 litre/1000 miles and I'd be worried +1 I've started to keep a spreadsheet of oil added/mileage - may be worth a try before panicking too much. kellz3-3
It's an 04 plate, 3.5ltr gt, 280bh. I've done just under 1200miles so far.

jollyranchers
are you checking the oil hot or cold ?
kellz3-3
I check it cold and on a flat surface
GMballistic
I check it cold and on a flat surface Good man that's the way to do it. Have you checked for any leaks anywhere then to see if that explains where some of the oil may be going which may add to the higher usage you're seeing? A common place for leaks is the rocker cover gaskets ~ one on each side (obviously) and you'll be looking for oil leaking/seeping out onto the exhaust manifolds. For example of what I'm talking about: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/80779-rocker-cover-gaskets-for-oil-leaks-vq35de/
-Bradders-
Take out your spark plugs see if any of them are filled with oil
Tricky-Ricky
I would run a compression and leak down test to see if its down to ring seal/bore wear, it shouldn't be drinking that much at that mileage unless its been abused badly, what oil grade are you using? reefshark
As others have said get it checked out it shouldnt be using that much oil. My 53 DE uses at a maxium 1/4L of oil every 1500miles or so of "spirited driving"
Rock_Steady
my De uses a bit of oil on hard drives for sure. Not as much as you've stated though.

Flex
Mine uses just under 1ltr per 1000 miles if driven hard ish, about 1/2 ltr every 3k if normal driving. 2005 DE.
coldel
Seems a lot for any car (except maybe an RX8...) As above, stick a big bit of cardboard under the car whilst it is still for a few days to see if there is any leaking whilst stationary, give the engine a decent wipe down and after a week check for any obvious signs of oil gathering (usually around the gaskets).
