Gearbox/Rear Dif oil changes

So I have been driving my new lovely Z for a week or so now and I can definitely feel that the gearbox is a little bit notchy and it sometimes grinds in 2nd gear if I am not careful, especially when cold.

After reading several topics on the forum about this issue, I am thinking an oil change for the gearbox would help.

Since it is going to be up there, why not change the rear diff oil?

I checked the service history and both have never been changed.

What do you think?

Where shall I go? I live in west London (Hillingdon area).

Any recommended garages around here to do this and not break the bank?

Thanks,

The 'notchyness' is rather normal with the 350z I believe, I have not experienced any consistent grinding, only during my first week of driving the car did 2nd gear grind or sometimes 3rd, reason being it was a completely different beast to my previous diesel saloonnnn which had a very light clutch compared to the Z's 10 tonne clutch.

I also heard about the benefits of molyslip so I am inclined to add it as well.

My previous car was a 320D which had a heavy clutch as well. Definitely not as heavy as the 350z.

I am also thinking of lowering the clutch pedal as it sits a little bit higher than the brake pedal at the moment.

I believe that by changing the oils and lowering the clutch it will be smooth and better to drive.

I read that Alex supplies the oils on here for a good price. Is this still valid?

And also, where can I go to perform all the above? Somewhere close and good.

OP you from Hayes? Think I've seen you about. I'm in a silver Z with private plates.

Japex have a great reputation too, they're in kings Langley and will be able to undertake the work.

Just before you enter Hayes from UXB. Haven't seen you yet mate unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip

I did mine and at first I couldnt tell a difference but it does seem to be a nicer change now, they are pretty bad when cold as a rule, once warm its fine, I put Molyslip in.

It isnt too bad to do but you need to buy a synringe, oh, and put something on the drive as ineviatably you will throw some around.

Mate - easy to do both yourself if you can get under there BUT...

Whatever you do, make sure that the filler bolts come off BEFORE you take the drain bolt out!!!

Or it's one hell of a messy job trying to pump oil back in through the drain hole....

Today I got recommended fully synthetic 75w90 GL4 in either Fuchs or Comma from a Japanese performance car specialist.

I read a lot on the forum about not using other than Nissan oils for the transmission and/or rear diff. but how can the specialist recommend these? They also said that the oils are the same grade as you would buy from Nissan, the Fuchs is a slightly higher specification.

What do you think?

Nissan don't make motor oils. It might come in a container with a Nissan label on it but it has been blended for Nissan by , usually, a major lubricant manufacturer such as Castrol, Fuchs , Mobil etc. It will be made to meet a specification which may be of Nissan origin but more likely an international specification. The competition to supply this " home brand" business is intense as volumes can be large . The price paid y Nissan, Ford etc is very low. The winning supplier therefore cuts the quality to the bone but has to keep within the spec. You an meet specs. with lower quality components and the majors own brand lubricants are always superior ,don't confuse specification with quality.
