marzman
Bollocks. Just came to start the car tonight and it's dead as a dodo. I've not started it in 2 weeks, since i pressure washed the engine. Stupidly, i didnt have the engine running whilst cleaning it (although i did spend 4 hours cleaning). On turn of key i can hear the fuel pump prime, but then on turning all the way i just get one loud click and nothing else. I've checked the fuses, checked all cables are secure, inspected the dizzy cap, earths seem okay, given the started motor a few whacks with the hammer... all without any change in symptoms. Worryingly i found out tonight the starter motor appears to be right on the bottom of the engine, by the bottom of the bell housing on the gearbox... and this is where i concentrated a lot of the water whilst pressure washing. Am i likely to have killed the started motor?? Are they recoverable?? On a positive note, i got my milled spacers back, and got the 2nd wheel on tonight, and it looks badass! GMballistic
Does it have a distributor on it? Sounds strange but have you tried liberally spraying the engine electrics/distributor with WD40? Old trick that works on older model cars when the distributor has got wet. Worth a shot? Edited before glrnet has a heart attack due to use of north american british english word. Edited November 6, 2014 by GMballistic

marzman
Yeh had the dizzy cap off and it looks sweet. Tomorrow i'll give everything a blast with the WD. I reckon it's the starter so i'll soak that.
marzman
Just popped into Mercedes and picked up the repair panel i ordered last week (£100.03). Looks pretty cool. Also ordered a fire extinguisher which arrived today. Lastly i bought a multimeter from Toolstation to help diagnose my non-starting issues. Oh, and whilst in the Mercedes dealers, i noticed they had a current model G in...!!
GMballistic
^^ Should have asked for a test drive in the new G wagen to take it home & see what parts fit yours.

marzman
Huh? Nope i've bought this mainly for the the amount of fuel/oil leaks i have, and if i ignite any of it whilst grinding something! Plus having seen Darren B's small welding fire
marzman
Oh also, i bought a battery charger from Aldi this morning - £13 and it's a really good bit of kit! Got the battery on charge now. It was reading 11.75 volts while on the car, although i've not got a drop tester to check the Amps. Will give it a charge and try it again. marzman
Well I finally got my wheels fitted, after having the inner face milled out to fit the larger hub on the car. Im pleased with how they look. On the downside, the car still wont start, and the battery is fully charged. I can hear the solenoid clicking, but the motor doesn't engage. I need to do some googling to figure out the next steps... Edited November 9, 2014 by marzman

marzman
Nothing much to update as i've only spent about a couple of hours working on the car in the last 2 weeks, but I took the front grill/bumper of yesterday. Ugly lucking thing, init?
leonk
I don't feel so bad about my slow progress now! Only kidding, I know you've had a nasty case of Ebola this week. All recovered now?
