Rich Martin
Hi all. Found a nice 06 plate z locally that would fit the bill. Looking at it, it is clearly a pre face lift as it doesn't have led rear lights and has the orange strip on the headlights. Just rang the dealership selling the car and he said the tax on the screen shows £260 odd for 6 months tax. I thought the pre face lift cars were cheaper to tax?? Am I missing something? Almeida1234
You are right. Only reason I can think is that rear lights have been changed due to a cracked lens or rear shunt
comrade
It is the plate that determines tax. 55 and earlier - cheap tax, 06 and later - expensive tax. Facelift cars are 07+ anyway, 06 are pre-facelift, but with 296hp rev-up engine.
mouthwash
It will be a late registered DE/Pre facelift car, some people aren't put off by the additional tax (I think WhackyWill has one?).
rabbitstew
If I remember correctly 2006 was the change over year for the road tax. so some 2006 cars will be lower tax than others. Also dealers sometimes register cars late, so we have seen some non HR 2008 registered cars, so they would have high tax but none of the benefits the HR brings. So it may well be it was pre facelift but registered late in 2006.

You are right, it is 06 cars that are facelift with bi-xenons and rear LEDs. I got confused. This means that the car OP was looking is indeed late registered.

HR was 07, facelift was 06. As others have said, it's a late registered car unfortunately.
Rich Martin
Thanks for the very fast reply guys. To be honest, I'm not completely put off as the car is cheap enough to start with, that and the fact that the dealership are re branding themselves as a mini specialist and I gave a forecourt ready cooper s clubman to Px so hoping I'll get a good deal. Just gotta get my coilovers off before I go down

To be honest, I'm not completely put off as the car is cheap enough to start with, To be honest, as Ekona would point out the £200 (or whatever it is) extra tax is only a couple of tanks of petrol at the end of the day. And if its a nice car then its worth that extra cost. Saying that though, it did used to really pain me giving DVLA nearly £500 a year to tax my HR when I had that. Esp when some mates had cars which were £15 or £30 a year tax.
ZMANALEX
Pre facelift VQ35DE rev up so will probably be an oil gussler.
Neilp
I'm sure I seen an 06 facelift car on here getting sold with the wrong front lights as it had a smash and the owner who bought it scrimped on parts and didn't repair it correctly. ATTAK Z
cars registered before 23 March 2006 were at the lower rate (so if the car was registered between 01 March 2006 and 22 March 2006 it will have an 06 plate but be at the lower tax rate)
Rich Martin
Appreciate all the input guys. It is definitely a pre face lift and not a face lift with older lights but thanks for the heads up. Going to go see if I can get the deal I want this week. All things going well, I could be a zed owner by the weekend!

They are asking £8000 which I think looks cheap judging by what else I can see for sale. What's the general consensus?
KyleR
If it was a facelift, the price would be god providing everything is in good order, i.e. Paint, service history, interior. But being a pre facelift, I personally see it being worth a grand less
kbeast35
^ this, for £500 more you can get an 08 hr in the zeds for sale section
RickyZ
I think it's too much money personally. I'd probably ask about that for my car but mines a facelift with only 50k miles not that I'm going to sell tho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
