gangzoom
13 months ago I took my first swimming lesson, and also signed up to a Triathlon as a way to motivate myself.... This weekend I finished my first sprint triathlon, and loved it!! Finished pretty much in the middle of the pack, had a little panic when I couldn't find the bike during the first transition . But overall loved it!! Cannot wait to really improve my swimming during the winter, and than aim to do a proper olympic distance triathlon next summer .... If anyone is half thinking about doing one, cannot recommend it enough, your really just competing against the clock, but having others around you really push you to dig a bit deeper on race day.....But best bit, I can eat like a pig and not have to worry about weight due to the amount of calories the training sessions burn up Edited September 15, 2014 by gangzoom

It's the transition thing & lack of experiance thats put me off till now which i know is a porr excuse. Over 50% of the 550 people that did event at the weekend were newbies Very friendly atmosphere, some one even helped me find my bike at the transition!! So just book on one and than get training!!
Ponsonby
Well done gangzoom - now you need to work up to Ironman. Couple of friends of mine did an Ironman not so long back, one of them is 60 and only started any form of training a couple of years back. Despite being in absolute agony he finished and his 'finish' is quite inspirational. Watch this youtube clip (forward to around 3 minutes). The guy either has balls of steel or is completely insane - you can decide for yourselves.
zzzzz
Yeah, congratulations. I did my first Sprint distance 4 years ago for my 40th. I have being doing the occasional Tri ever since, my first Olympic distance was last year. This year I focused more on cycling and completed the London to Paris in 24 hours (inc. ferry time) last weekend. This is why I never post in the thread 'did you clean your car this weekend', I never had the time ! I highly recommend doing an open water swim, I still go to a lake every week, at least from May to September. As you say you can eat like a big and not have to worry about weight gain, that's pretty much why I do it ;-)

Ricey
Done Hellrunner and tough mudder but really fancy doing a Tri, Sadly I now spend all day smoking fags and drinking tea whilst grimacing at the repairs someone needs on their car.
