JDM Performance
Hey guys Just thought I'd give you an update on our project car and its progress. A week or so ago we tagged along with the MR2 owners club up to Dastek in Dalgety Bay. I took the Z and my wife took her TT which we've been working on a lot recently. First up, the TT on the rollers produced storming results coming in at the 275.9 bhp / 281.1 lbft. A great result for the work we've put in it and with a slight under-fueling issue seems more can come with a better map. The 1.8T engine is a belter of a motor I have to say. Now the Z - seems I had the opposite problem with it over fueling. I was actually lower bhp and torque (273.3 / 256.5) than the wife's TT much to the amusement of her and others. The over fueling might suggest why I am getting the engine check light a lot - with it most often reverting to a 'back up map' (not a 'get you home map' but apparently the system has another copy of the base map in its ECU - odd) which it does quite often. Sooooo, I need a re-map. Dastek said they could fit one of their piggybacks onto it which I thought would be a good idea, if nothing else just to resolve the fueling graph. Has anyone else used a Dastek on their Z? Anyway that's it for now. Chris
rickya
I have read over on the other side that the piggy back's are not as good as a new afternarket ECU. Altered Atmosphere are good & so are Motordyne for plenum spacers. Goodluck.
JDM Performance
I have read over on the other side that the piggy back's are not as good as a new afternarket ECU. Totally agree on that one - but I thought this would be good because: 1) The car aint ever gonna have mega-mods so a piggyback would probably do the job ok 2) It's not that expensive 3) Dastek are 20miles from here and I cant be bothered taking my car to a tuner in England to get a full ECU fitted cause I am old and tired lol Chris

Removed
nevermind the estimated bhp @ the crank, what are the figures @ the wheels? all you have posted is old news, btw. if you do a search on here as well as US forums, you will see our cars run rich instead of lean with breathing mods, thanks to our ECU. You just had the confirmation of what was already known for a long time Piggyback will sort you out, I wouldn't even think of going unichip though.... do some research and you'll see why. Chesterfield
Hi, I think what Val is referring to is that prior to the creation of this forum, there was an owner on the previous community site that had the unichip fitted by Dastek in 2004 and had a whole host of issues afterward. This is before my time of 350Z ownership so Im not aware of the full details, and was obviously in the infancy of 350Z tuning in the UK in 2004. urbanmyth
Hi Just give Chris Davis a call. He is the ex WRC mapper. He is now up and running 2 rolling roads. He mapped all the APS TT that left WRC. Mine included. He also has done mapping on NA. http://www.lancerregister.com/showthrea ... wrc+gforce http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic ... hlight=wrc
Removed
the issue is that the Unichip is a **** poor piggyback.... it offers just the bare minimum control needed.
JDM Performance
the issue is that the Unichip is a **** poor piggyback.... it offers just the bare minimum control needed. I think perhaps for our car's needs, the bare minimum is all that it does need...? Would love to get Chris to do it, but Silverstone is a 700+ mile round trip for me. For the same price of petrol and an overnight stay I think I'd prefer to have a weekend break in Amsterdam and come home with change! herbie
Sorry for reserrecting an old thread but has anyone fitted a Dastek Unichip yet and did you see any noticable gains in power/torque? I thought a Unichip would be a far cheaper alternative to going Haltech. Thanks.
ZMANALEX
Went to Dastek in Dalgety Bay in 2005 (30 minutes drive for me) with my Zed for a dyno run and a chat about power upgrades. Total waste of time and money as they were absolutely clueless with no Zed experience. Don't know what they are like now and will never know because I will not return. I now do a round trip of 1000 miles to get my mapping done by a HKS specialist who I can trust. Alex. They
rtbiscuit
i'd be interested to see what it does, to be honest if it gets it to notice and utilise the mods we add. instead of cancelling them out. will watch this with anticipation to see what you fijnd out. They specifically asked weither it was JDM or UK, so they must have done some research on them lately. £399.99 for installation and tuning. I must admit, its tempting. There must be at least one person on here running one? Thanks.

What they expect to gain from using it and how many customers they have running them with no issues? A lot of these places tend to be quite generic, and its only when pushed for real results the cracks show in their knowledge
