New Zed owner in Doncaster.

Recommended Posts

Hello all! Just purchased my first sporty coupe, bit of an upgrade as had a Mk6 2.0 TDI Golf before. Absolutely loving it, purchased an 05 reg with 74k on the clock but a folder full of receipts (£1600 spent on it at start of August), 2 previous owners and a full service history up to date with a service being done only 200 miles ago, paid £6200 for it, good price? Have a 6 month plan to get an uprev remap, alloy refurb and sprayed gloss black and an all around touch up and buff. :)

Welcome aboard Ash. :welcome:

Before you get an UpRev done on your Zed you're best off getting all/any accompanying mods done first. E.g. Exhaust system, plenum spacer, air filter etc. ;)

Cheers mate, any recommendations on the system, spacer and filter? I'm a newbie to all this and look forward to learning.

Ok I'll try to enlighten you. :D

The exhaust system ~ this is such a personal taste item as you will want it to look good but more importantly sound the way you like it.

Also it all depends on your budget. At the lesser budget end of the scale there are exhaust systems like the Cobra system which start from around £390/400 and at the higher end there are systems like the Motordyne which will set you back around £1500 odd.

Both of the above linked shops are member traders on here so look out for forum discounts from them or group buys. Personally I have an Invidia Gemini full exhaust system which I bought from Tarmac Sportz ~ this is a true dual exhaust system.

Also if changing your exhaust system you may want to think about changing from the OEM catalytic converters to aftermarket HFC's (High Flow CAT's) or DE-CAT's. Both of these will flow more gases than the OEM CAT's for more performance, be louder and also lighter in weight. Both available from CS or Tarmac.

The spacer (for the inlet plenum) ~ it increases power & torque by increasing the volume of the inlet plenum over standard. The plenum fyi is the large grey part on top of the engine which divides the air into the cylinders from the air filter intake.

I have a Horsham Developments plenum spacer which works great and doesn't cost a lot either. Link: http://www.h-dev.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=78_169_293_472_479&products_id=25052

But if you like pretty things then Wasso a member trader on here can usually sort you out with a plenum spacer in a pretty colour if that's your thing (they do look fantastic tbh B) ). Link: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/71728-fsbatch-3-custom-anodised-plenum-spacers-170/

Filter ~ the general consensus is that the standard airbox with a performance panel filter is best for performance, ...especially when used with the 2006 airbox conversion kit. Link: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/86240-new-batch-2006-airbox-conversion-kit-interest-list/

Panel filter wise it's up to you (basically all do the same thing after all). K&N, Cosworth, Piper & more available.

But there is no reason why you can't have an air induction kit just for a bit more show under the bonnet or more noise. Lot's go for just a Pop charger (cone filter) as they are fairly cheap but you can also get much better induction kits depending on how much you want to spend.

I have a Stillen air induction kit which is around £248 from Tarmac Sportz as I wanted an induction kit that offered similar heat protection to the cone filter as the OEM rather than it being more exposed to engine temperatures as an open cone filter is even with the heat shields.

When you do start looking at getting the UpRev done as I said it's best to make sure you're done with all those type of mods as any change afterwards and you will need it remapped to get the most from your mods. Horsham Developments, Abbey Motorsports, TDi North and Rs Tuning are all popular respected venues for an UpRev.

Hope that helps.
