tatooandy67 Posted September 1, 2014 Share Posted September 1, 2014 Irresponsible animal owners are at fault 100% of the time, unfortunately the animal, a dog in the instances mentioned does not really know any better, I lost my previous cat to an irresponsible dog owner, the dog was just doing his owners bidding so the owner deserved at the very least to be enlightened with regard to the error of his ways IMO there are only bad people who are supposedly responsible for their pets hope your little friend is on the mend and gets well soon 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I debated with myself to phrase it similar to you Andy. Anyway it just riled me when someone encourages harm to an innocent animal. Ceejay29 Posted September 1, 2014 Author Share Posted September 1, 2014 Without doubt the owner is at fault and this is the case 99% of the time. Any breed of dog can be aggressive, some cause more damage than others due to genetical strength and power. We have a Rottweiler and have been strict with him form day one; consequently he is a gent and a joy to be around. On the other hand we inherited a cocker a few years back that was spoilt rotten by my grandparents and needless to say she can be a handful when trying to discipline her (for example you cannot get near her when she has a treat). Other than that she has picked up the basics and is very affectionate. I do not blame the dog in question as it is cooped up all day every day, never walked and malnourished. I can't imagine how this dog is feeling with its lack of attention, exercise, stimulation and socialisation. The welfare of this young dog is under threat and it is foreseeable that something else could happen in the future. It is a beautiful dog in need of a respectable keeper. With regards to the little man; he is hanging in there although has been struggling. The vet located a piece of shell/bone lodged within his air passage of which has impeded his breathing. Unfortunaly he isn't eating and therefore is being drip fed. Infection and trauma remain the main concerns and I don't think we will get the all clear or know whether or not he will make it for a long time. As mentioned before they are very slow healers and are renowned for developing issues further down the line due to metabolism speed etc. The vet however does sound positive and has mentioned to our amazement that he has seen worse. Tortoises are very robust and determined little buggers. He is healthy and has been cared for religiously over the eight years he has been around. Couple this with the knowledge and professional surveillance he is under, then he has a fighting chance. To be fair your comments passed me by, the "member" who was advocating harm to animals riled me. Yes the dog has done wrong and the poor tortoise is paying the price for the owners poor handling of the dog in both bits past training and it's current situation. Hate is an evocative word though, I do know what you mean as some animals and humans have a certain "vibe". Cats and dogs seem to want to be near me, other animals less so. Take my dog for instance, she thinks every person and dog is her friend with the exception on a couple of occasions where she's blanked either a person or dog where I can't see any reason why. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ceejay29 Posted September 7, 2014 Author Share Posted September 7, 2014 So the little man has been back for a few days now and we think he is slowly recovering. We have been feeding him using a syringe and administering antibiotics ourselves; thankfully he ate on his own accord yesterday and his digestive system appears to be working. The vet has carried out remarkable repairs and works to his shell and he is in much better shape, it is hard to believe how bad he was in places. His underside was severely damaged, we are hoping that as this part of the shell regrows it will push the pink acrylic off.
