SJ350z
Is it me or is the 350z market not going too well at the minute? I mean the prices of our cars seems to have crumbled recently ( 350z DEs mainly ) As some or most of you know my Zed is currently on for sale and being honest, I don't particularly want to sell her. I'm trying to do the right thing and make an adult wise decision ( owe family member a chunk of cheddar ). I was hoping she would be sold quickly as every time I drive her I get that.. " what the hell are you doing selling this .. " feeling. I've dropped the price of her a touch on the forums and I'm not prepared to let her go for peanuts or silly money. Just wanted some thoughts and opinions
hensh65
With the 370 and HR prices falling its going to keep pushing the bottom prices down. Its never going to be a quick car to shift, also bare in mind you are past summer and winter is approching.
SJ350z
I just can't help but look at what else you can buy for similar money? A golf GTI ? An RX8? Audi A3? .. The german ones have likely to have done balls high mileage too. Just think its personally all up the spout but hey ho im trying to sell not to buy I'm bias If she doesn't go for reasonable money I'm giving up I reckon. Too much hassle for little gain. Heck its only a year or 18 months more of paying back the family member. MSN news are lying tarts too..they said 350zs are an investment and going up Maybe its just a god awful time to sell
Kev
I've always thought the market was slow for older cars that are relatively cheap to buy but expensive to run and insure. Many buyers with £7k to spend can't really afford to run a Z and most people who can afford to, can afford a newer car.
BulletMagnet
Instead of paying back family member, give them the car and call it a clean sheet

Grundy
My plan has always been (Paid 6.300 for it at 60k on the clock) When it gets to 100k (If I decide to sell it) Always figured, sell the car for around £5kish and then sell mods on top of that. Wouldn't let it go for below £5k.

My brother was going to buy it but backed out as he spends way too much on his girlfriend . Shes ginger too so would fit right in

If I end up keeping due to no buyers for the right money I'll be taking that ^^ on board Btw if she goes I hope you all know im staying put on this forum Will try to attend local meets also. Got a few members cars on here that im itching to see in the flesh too.

I think more and more people are selling their zeds a bit too cheap and its just having a knock on effect with the pricing. Not quite sure on how big the scale is though. My insurance is £900 Fully comp on a multi car Policy. Can't really complain being
coldel
You could also argue that DEs and HRs are on the whole going up in mileage, getting more rust etc so the value of them will drop because on the whole you are getting less car (we all were on here saying prices had bottomed out two years ago but they have slipped further) - until suddenly there are not many left and they become collectors items and prices go up again. I don't think people are generally selling too cheap, some sell out of panic because they didn't realise the running costs yes, but the majority will not sell cheap if they can confidently get more for it, that doesn't make sense. Cars generally sell for what people will pay for them.

When I purchased my Zed the prices for a good Z with decent mileage was atleast £6k if not £7+.and recently I've been seeing them go for less with okay mileage. Just having a small panic about it I guess. I'm not a donut though and would rather keep her and struggle on than let her go for less than she is worth. Just thought the market had noticeably dropped in the last 18months from when I bought her to now when I'm trying to sell. Also my car has done 63k miles and has no rust anywhere with completely clean arches.
SimonPG
I still can't believe how cheap some Z's are going for. Such a bargain when compared to other cars for the same money
coldel
Yes bargain in terms of power, performance and looks but a total loser if you talk about mpg, having to use super unleaded, VED, cost of running in terms of parts and tyres, practicality etc. There are plenty other cars out there in the same boat, performance a plenty but pretty cheap, RX8, Boxsters and the like. Level 7 Boss
Boxsters, with their chocolate engines and potential for big bills, no thanks. Sure they're amazing cars though. Wanted to go for a Cayman next but worried about the engine, may think about an XK but that's a few years away
coldel
The point was that there are plenty of other sports cars (whether you rate them or not) in the same boat as Zeds, high running costs, potential for big bills, fuel, tax etc Yes a one litre fiesta for £5k is not as much 'car' but in terms of practicality, cost of running etc it makes Zeds, Boxsters etc look pretty horrendous - and its these things that are important to some people.
zeddy addict
I sold my roadster today for a decent price but was lucky to find someone that specifically wanted one with low miles, history and condition. It had been for sale for a few months with not one viewing until today. Yes, I dropped the price a bit but compared to what I was being offered trade I am happy with that and had no choice but to sell as we had to buy an estate. Much better than letting webuyanycar.com get their hands on it for a pittance anyway. I think the time of year has been bad, school holidays are always quiet but also I think the high tax band puts a lot of traders off buying them as they are hard to shift unless you are a specialist in these cars. I lost count of the number of times I tried to p/x it before we just went ahead and bought another car but most traders didn't even bother to reply. Of course,if you are after one they can never get one as they are like 'gold dust' or they want mega bucks but they don't want to buy yours when you want to sell. I think the market for these high tax cars will always be a bit niche but there will always be people who take the hit on tax because the cars are so exceptional and you get a hell of a lot of bang for your buck. We all bought them and most of us have owned more than one, they won't drop much more than any other high performance car, bad time of year to sell but September always picks up. If you look at the prices of Golf gti's and Boxsters they seem to have dropped big time. Edited August 27, 2014 by zeddy addict

Anyone looking for a sports car will have zero interest in what price you pay for an economical run around and if your looking for a sports car you will expect the incurred costs and personally I dont think the Zed rates badly, mpg etc Its getting old Is the simple answer, all cars depreciate. coldel
Yes but the original point was it is 'so much car' but values are so low - I pointed out that so much car means different things to different people.
