feel honest question as i feel i may have jumped at grundys challenge a bit quick; and please dont take offence

but do you guys ever go out and socialize as in like when you buds go down the pub do you just not go or do you go and ask for water?

Same thing but like im due to g o meet an old school friends for a nandos soon does this mean nothing from nandos can be eaten?

im still confused about bread so can brown bread be eaten safely or is it a case you do it at your own risk kinda jobbie?

Ketchup and other sauces guess you guys avoid like the plague?

Is it a 100% chance of failure if you dont drop everything, like a difference between making it healthier and training like the blooming rock haha

there is a few more but arms feel like jelly and my back hurts from going down the range for like 3 hours yesterday :( And thats not even really exercise

I'd work on the basis of small changes.

You don't like a lot of 'good' things for you so we need to introduce them slowly.

Take the advice above and start to introduce it into your lifestyle.

You need to socialise so instead of drinking pints of beer, switch to vodka and a diet mixer or if it's more of a 'beer' situation a bottle instead of a pint. If of socialise a lot try and knock the ale on the head at least half of the time.

Breakfast is clearly a key meal so make sure that's your most healthy to start off. Make small adjustments to lunch and dinner. Cut a snack out here and there. Never ever eat after midnight as you'll start spawning furry creatures from your bottom.

Drinking some ultralife detox will do you no harm. You need to drink lots of water with it and you'll in the least polite terms I can fathom 'shat for England'. It spring cleans the guts which is never a bad thing.

However you MUST do all of this on a schedule. If you do too much at once you might just think 'balls' and quit. If you do too little you prob won't see too much improvement and thing 'balls' and quit.

Depends who you are mentally. If you might want the hole hog immediate lifestyle change but it sounds like you need to learn a little about what works for you and what you can cope with.

Just giving an example about what I'm on about - brown bread. Now I'm not saying don't eat bread but maybe what you need to do is to not worry about eating bread until you understand more about it and what it does to your body......but maybe what you should do is eat brown bread instead. If you decide bread is really causing you to hold weight then cut it out or down.

Also for the love of god remember sometimes when you've been eating really well and losing weight really fast you will plateau and stop losing weight at the same rate. At this point you will jam a Krispy Creme donut down your gob and when you weigh in .....you'll have lost weight.

This is some sort of calorie shifting thing that I can't explain technically but I think it's something to do with it firing you metabolism up. Don't fall for it!

I shifted 4kg in a month (started 82.5kg) almost by accident, by simply going for a brisk walk every other day, 5km / 45 mins. I actually started it to sort out an intermittent bad back, but happily shifted some timber too. Now I've seen that work for both my back and my belly, I'm trying to make it a daily thing and be really quite disciplined through the week about not eating rubbish, then have an amnesty at the weekend if I'm out with mates for a drink and the inevitable kebab/pizza. I want to enjoy the finer things from time to time

When you look at a day, 45mins is nothing to put to one side and when it's nice and sunny, it's good to go for a wander with some tunes on, zone out, relax, soak up some rays and look less pale . Doesn't cost a penny if you already have comfortable footwear. I think winter will be the test for me...

I'll go - but my friends know how seriously I take my health - I seldom drink, but I do like a drink from time to time, nothing wrong with enjoying yourself from time to time, a drink won't do you any harm as long as you don't over do it - however, yes I can quite happily order water, or a soft drink (though they have loads of sugar!) :)

Same thing but like im due to g o meet an old school friends for a nandos soon does this mean nothing from nandos can be eaten?

You can make some good choices on the menu, grilled chicken isn't so bad, just don't order fries, and keep away from bread etc... It can be done. You shouldn't stop yourself from going out and seeing your friends, just make up for it when you are not socialising.

im still confused about bread so can brown bread be eaten safely or is it a case you do it at your own risk kinda jobbie?

The problem is modern grain is so diluted to how it was hundreds of years ago, it has undergone significant genetic changes, and is no longer of the quality that our ancestors had, furthermore, bread in this country is mass produced and uses low quality mass produced ingredients that it hardly even resembles bread.

I personally don't eat bread - but the odd slice or sandwich from time to time is not going to be bad, a lot of people I train with, and offer guidance to in my life, have felt a huge change since giving up bread (for the better).

Ketchup and other sauces guess you guys avoid like the plague?

Moderation is key. If you bathe your food in it, then yes I'd say cut down, if it's a teaspoon here or there then don't worry too much about it.

Is it a 100% chance of failure if you dont drop everything, like a difference between making it healthier and training like the blooming rock haha

No there's no absolutes in life. I train hard (I do some personal training, I take part in strongman events, and I play squash/basketball and I used to play competitive level rugby) as well as go for long walks at weekends. However, I like my treats from time to time, I'll have a burger or a pizza takeout, I'll have an ice cream - but I do that once a week or make it the exception rather than the rule. As such I'm not miserable as I don't feel I'm missing out on "cheat" foods. That said my diet during the week is very clean - and many may find boring, but I'm eating close to 3000 calories a day, but I'm quite a big chap and need it for my training.

there is a few more but arms feel like jelly and my back hurts from going down the range for like 3 hours yesterday :( And thats not even really exercise

Any activity will be good. I'm happy to do this in private if you want, or if we want the community here at 350zuk to chip in you can share with us foods you do and don't like and can see if we can help you make better choices.

You have to be honest with yourself though, and start being very regimented in logging EVERY item of food - use an app like myfitnesspal. it's laborious but ultimately it really does help.

Once you decide to change, then you need to dedicate yourself.

And if that means that for the first few weeks or months that you're gonna be less sociable to get your health in order, then so be it.

There is no quick fix and crash diets are dangerous as you can regain lost weight or more once you stop.

Like mentioned before, don't see it as a diet, see it as a lifestyle change. This is for life.

For example, another member in here, Madmarky, he has lost a substantial amount of weight, but it was a choice he made based on if he wanted to live till 40 or if he wanted to live beyond 40.

Another ex-member, D4NXY, he was overweight and made the choice to change his life, couple years after the decision he was part of the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics 2012 and still does charity runs to this day.

It's about making a choice that sticks, it ain't easy by no means, especially when you have a lifetime of bad habits eating wise.

It's tough but not impossible.

Wish you the best of luck with this Steve

Good post - agreed with all of that - it isn't easy, it is a challenge, but definitely worth doing, and we (I) am happy to help you as much as necessary if you're willing to do it :)

Excellent post. Yes, small changes = big difference. It won't happen over night, you have to be in this for the long haul.

To start with I wouldn't get too scientific about it and just make smart food choices to start with.

Once you get down to certain bodyfat percentages, that's when you can get scientific.

I'm not there yet, but it's a long process for me.

If you can ignore the visuals, have a listen to this

So the main thing to remove is sugar/carbohydrates something with 12.1 grams of Carbohydrate and 3.3g of which sugars

iss that very bad

Stevo, the way to look at it (or the way I am looking at it) Have 3 decent meals throughout the day - and avoid snacking,

I'm not going to be looking at any numbers because you will you will end up doing your head in 'oh i can only eat 70% of this snack blah blah blah'

You're not going to get shot for eating something bad, just have it in moderation, not all the time or everyday. - If you are hungry, try have a piece of fruit.

depends how heavy it is to start with.... 12.1 grams in 500 grams is pretty low but 12.1 grams in 20 grams is not... as bullet has said dont get tied up in the details just yet.. make smart / healthy choices and it will make a difference.. doesnt take a genius to work out a grille chicken on brown gread with salad is going to be more healthy than a burger covered in mayo with a side of chips

I'ma go with bad  You're the only person I know who snacks on popcorn.

You can get packets from Tesco's of fresh cooked chicken legs/strips etc. (tell me if I'm wrong) but you good have one or two bits of chicken in replacement of the popcorn

Popcorn can be very healthy snack, as long as it's not drenched in butter and salt. Popcorn is high in fiber and low in calories. Air popped popcorn is the best. Check the labels on microwave popcorn, as many brands contain high levels of sodium and fat.

other snacks.... by snack i mean a small amount not a whole packet

Nuts

Nuts contain monounsaturated fats, which can lower your total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, while clearing your arteries and preventing the build up of arterial plaque. Nuts are high in protein, so they help you feel full. Nuts are also high in the antioxidant vitamin E, as well as fiber and magnesium.

Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds contain a lot of the same healthy nutrients as nuts. Choose low salt or salt free sunflower seeds; the salt on the shells can make this healthy snack much less healthy after all.

Peanut and Nut Butters

Peanut and other nut butters are rich in protein, which can help keep you feeling full in between healthy meals. You can eat peanut butter all by itself, or add it to fruit, crackers or a smoothie. Peanut butter is a great healthy snack, but don't eat too much, because it's also high in calories.

Smoothies

Fruit smoothies are a great healthy snack and can even be used to replace healthy lunches if you put in enough ingredients. Smoothies can contain up to 600 calories, as many as some healthy meals, and can keep you feeling full for hours.

You can make smoothies yourself in your blender at home, with ingredients like fruit, yogurt and peanut butter. Many juice bars and cafes also offer smoothies on the menu. For extra protein, ask for an added shot of whey powder. Just be advised that smoothies are often high in fructose (fruit sugar), and that sugar can lead to weight gain if it's not burned off.

Beef Jerky

Beef jerky is a healthy snack that's high in protein. An ounce of jerky contains about 80 calories, 12 grams of protein and 1 gram of fat.

Buy your jerky at a health food store or whole foods grocery. However, be sure to read the label, as many brands of jerky are high in sodium.

Low or Non Fat Yogurt

An eight ounce cup of yogurt contains about 3 grams of fat and 150 calories. Yogurt is also high in protein and a good source of dietary calcium. Some studies show that consuming three eight ounce servings of low fat yogurt each day can help you lose weight. In addition, many low fat recipes use low fat yogurt as a healthy substitute for sour cream.

If you need a burst of energy while dieting, consider munching on one of the previously mentioned snacks.

its honestly not 'just eat salad all the time' get some of the above mentioned snacks and choose a more healthy option... drop the crisps, chocolate and redbull and buy some protien rich snacks instead.. drink plenty of water and it will make a huge difference

Some of you guys must have great will power to resist all the snacks/nice foods :snack:, if you want to eat and loss weight I would seriously consider looking at swimming.

Not everyone is can do a Phelps diet (12,000 kcal /day), but since I've learnt to swim I have honestly struggled to keep the weight on regardless of eatting the most horrible diet, cakes, chocholate, carbs etc. Previously I did quite a lot fo cycling/running, but swimming just burns through calories like nothing else, it seiourisly puts up your basal metabolic rate, so even when your not excerising your body is just burning through carbs. A plus point is swimming is a low impact sport, so even if your big your not handicaped compared to something like running.

And on the topic of salad...

I like a ribeye steak salad

Also like chargrilled chicken fillet salad

Sometimes have Seabass fillets on salad

Hot Tiger prawns on salad is yummy too

Or a nice salmon fillet on salad.

Sometimes I just have salad, but with some nice cherry tomatoes and balsamic dressing.

It's up to you how boring your salad is :)

If you have a salad with a side order of Xbox, can be pretty exciting :)

We are having a chicken stir fry for dinner tonight, and i went without my 2nd can of RB and my chocolate raisins. Stopped off at a butchers earlier and picked up 2 nice steaks for dinner tomorrow night, though this will be a treat as the steak alone was £14!

You guys have inspired me to work on my fitness as well as my diet. However, i failed massively in Tesco, as they currently have Ben and Jerry's on BOGOF!
