SteveW
After 85k and ten years my banana arm bush has died. So I've just bought a full front end set of the Superpro Polyurethane ones from H-Dev. I need to get a tool to split the ball joints upper and lower so I can get the arms off for pressing the new bushes in. Is there any specific 'size' I need or can someone recommend a suitable tool that isn't a fortune? Also do I need something to remake the joints after they have been split? I plan to buy new nuts for the ball joints after reading a couple of threads on here. Thank you Steve
ZMANALEX
You do not require a ball joint splitter for the front ball joints because the alloy arms have cones fitted to the ball joint. Alex.
Keyser
I use a lump hammer - not expensive A spanner or socket is all that is needed to pull them back together. Loosen the nut (after removing the split pin) give the ball joint a clout (not stupidly hard) on the side of the bar it fits through it should pop out.If not put the nut on and tighten it until about 1 thread is left and a sharp tap on top that should break free it they have inserts so should not need any more persuading most will fall apart. If you do use a tool be careful as the rubbers are very easy to split. Good luck Edited July 25, 2014 by Keyser
SteveW
Thanks Alex and Keyser, just what wanted to hear. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly, unlike the current ride in the car
