ostego
Have been thinking recently whether I'm doing my engine or transmission any harm by using 6th gear if i'm doing 62-70mph (of course I never go above 70!) This leaves the revs at around 2.1-2.5k Is this speed ok to do in 6th? Or should i always aim to have the engine running at around 3,000 rpm, as sometimes it does feel a bit sluggish doing 60-odd in 6th
The Bounty Bar Kid
It's fine imo. I leave it in 6th when cruising from 60+
brillomaster
I'm using 6th from anywher much above 45 if I'm just cruising. Of course if you need to overtake then 3rd or 4th is better!
skahigh
The speed is obviously not the issue but the engine revs as I think you know. Anything above about 1500 rpm is not likely to do much harm to the engine (and possibly lower).
JEMAN
Well I always change gear at 2k ish as I only do 10 miles a day (5 to work and 5 back) 5 days a week.........so not really warmed up enough to give it much more. But what with the Z being fairly torque it seems to handle the lower revs fine
coldel
Don't labour the engine, and don't stick your foot to the floor at low revs high gear low speed etc. Gears are there for a reason, to ensure the engine runs correctly at the right speed. lolzz
I use 6th above 35 mph Of course only on long straight roads without any incline and without acceleration.
Dynamic Turtle
Wow that's low - 6th feels more comfortable over 65mph to me (with a DE remapped to 285bhp). The engine appears to labour under 2250rpm which is my preferred gear change threshold from 6th < 5th. JetSet
I usually change up to 6th at around 55-60 but I'll let it drop to 40, maybe slightly lower if I'm in traffic then drop down a gear or two once I'm free of traffic. As Coldel points out the idea is not to labour the engine, especially if you're determined to use 95 RON fuel . Pete
davedutch
lower gears are for accelerating or when in traffic, 6th gear when cruising, just drop it down a gear or two when you need to accelerate (or when in tunnels) Pete, i thought there was a rule on the forum regarding swearing - you know only to use 98 ron or better
AMT
Meh.. I stick it in 6th whenevet it can handle it without labouring. It does fine at 30+mph Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
CJRamze
I'm with AMT on this one. If I'm pottering around it will go into the highest gear possible. Although I have no idea if that's bad for the car.
