Flex
I'm quite sick of the golf now, we get low 40mpg around town and 50mpg when doing 60-65 on A roads but you've got to really plod along. I just wondered what else people have/had that they've had remapped to get a good 50+mpg without having to be too conservative with the pedal to the metal. I quite like the swifts and the Mrs likes the newer style civics so interested if anyone has had either and mapped for better economy. Or anything else really see whats out there to consider. LRF4N
What year is your golf? Newer cars are much more economical so if your getting something much younger you'll already be one step better

skahigh
As already mentioned, newer cars are way more economical than those of even 10 years ago. We have just been looking at new Leons for the wife and ended up going for the 1.4 TSI petrol over the 2.0 TDI as it gets similar economy and emissions, only slightly lower power but, its a much nicer more refined engine to live with. Combined cycle is supposedly 54mpg I think.
GIXXERUK
Clio Dci 80bhp remapped to 110bhp, never see under 60mpg and on a run can see 80mpg, £20 a year tax, cheaper than walking

JetSet
I had my Escort RSTurbo mapped from 130 to 195 BHP and didn't see any significant difference in MPG....That was a long time ago though. Pete

It's a 53 plate, bought it 3yrs ago, one owner 40k miles, now has 103 k on it , I imagine the newer ones are even better ! CJRamze
My Mrs car which is slowly becoming "my daily" Is a 1.4 petrol seat Ibiza. Average fuel economy over 2000 miles is 52mpg. I'm very frugal though and never exceed 65 on the motorway. If I was to do it again I'd go the old PD100 1.9TDI Seat Ibiza. Used to do 150 miles before we needle would move from full. Miss that car! R35LEE
Juke 1.5DCi Tekna I got for my Mrs. Returns good MPG but we tuned it at Falcon Performance and it gets an extra 4 MPG. It's a mild tune and performance improvement is noticeable but my Mrs always drives it in Eco mode anyway
Peak 370
Off the top of my head. Megane 175TD remapped by RS Leeds from 175 to 205. Economy improved. 335D and 535D by DMS from 286 to 340. Civic 2.2 TD. Celtic Tuning. 138 to 180. Better economy. Golf 130TD. 130 to 170. Better mpg. Shark Perf.
kevinmwatters
I had my Seat Leon FR (2.0 ltr diesel) remapped by Powertune Scotland. Took her from 150BHP to 204BHP and was never any less than 45MPG! It was essentiallyu a performance map, but resulted in better economy as well.

JetSet
The Escort engine is an inefficient fossil, in fairness. I guess so but I covered about 116,000 miles in it without any problems. Sold it in 2001 and according to The DVLA site it's still taxed. BTW, there was a 225 bhp package for that engine. No engine mods but upgraded brakes and suspension. Dynamic Turtle
I used a 2014 manual fiesta (1.0 non ecoboost) petrol for a month and averaged 45mpg ragging it like the hire car it was. Horrid spongy thing to drive but the 3 cylinder engine was pretty smooth. You have to consider the additional purchase costs, insurance and maintenance in the fuel economy calculation etc so run the numbers carefully. Peak 370
JetSet, I would love to know how they took that engine from 130 to 225 bhp. Without engine mods, too? ! Huh? I shudder to think of the boost you'd need and the turbo lag.

I shudder to think of the boost you'd need and the turbo lag. I don't really know how they did it, it was one of 3 options I had to chose from. The company that did it was Collins Performance in Congleton who specialize in Fords and still do RS Turbo conversions. Mine was the 195 option, just a chip and a wastegate actuator, cost me around £300 in 1991, the full 225 conversion was (from memory) a couple of grand. Mine didn't come with a boost gauge although I saw it tested with one in and I can't remember what boost it ran. http://www.collinsperformance.com/ Pete Edited July 1, 2014 by JetSet
