leebottrill
What's people view on the best engine? I've got the hr and driven the de but that's it!

hensh65
DE pumps the HR in the a$$ up the strip, thats all that matters....
brillomaster
not the revup one (296) since most people say that consumes oil - either DE (276) or HR (313?)
skahigh
What does the DE / HR stand for?
skahigh
I vote HR btw but that's only because I own one
Lexx
What does the DE / HR stand for? It's just the Nissan designation. VQ35DE and VQ35HR Supposedly the DE stands for: D - Dual Overhead Cam E - Electronic Fuel Injection and the HR for "High Revolution". Not sure how much truth is in that. hensh65
What does the DE / HR stand for? A quick google threw this up D - Dual Overhead Cam E - Electronic Fuel Injection H - Hairy R - Roman
350zedd
I avoided the revup and went for the HR because: 80% of engine components redesigned and strengthened Larger crank bearings Reinforced main bearing caps Breathes better........blah...blah..... I suppose its how you would define "best" really
delz0r
I've had both and the HR is noticeably better than the DE rev-up I had beforehand.

skahigh
Thanks, I figured someone would know. We all know I'm new here. Back on point, I guess 'best' is all down to interpretation. If you're talking about something measurable like reliability or power then there are probably statistics somewhere that would close the discussion and that would be no fun at all.

Ekona
You lose 6ft/lbs but gain 33bhp AND 1000 revs in the HR. You almost certainly won't feel the loss of 2% of overall torque but you probably will feel an increase of 12% in power, and you'll DEFINITELY know about the extra revs! How anyone can make a case for the DE being the better engine is beyond me.

glrnet
At this stage of the game surely all of this is hypothetical, if an engine has not had regular oil changes with the correct oil and been run on 95 RON fuel then it's a ticking bomb anyway. Dan is right to a point but I wouldn't want that horribly high oil consumption that an HR can give.
