Rocky4510
I'm also interested in what's good to use, I tried Gunk last weekend and I can't say it done much good - probably because I didn't put too much effort into it but it left white marks everywhere :/ Sent from Tapatalk
-Bradders-
I recently used meguirs 2 stage bay cleaner. Check out my project thread for results!
.Griff.
I use this - http://www.chemicalguysuk.com/All_Purpose_Cleaner_p/allcln.htm Even diluted 20:1 it seems to cut through anything.

wizurd
Did my bay and had great results. Tried all the usual products and no good. Then used carb cleaner! Brilliant. Just cut straight through all the gunk with ease. Just a little amount on a rag. I wouldn't go to hard just in case but I found it cut through everything without need for brushes. Just rags. japcarsbrett
i used engine degreaser it works a treat takes everything off effortlessly i bought it a long time a go it lasts ages it's made by comma so cheap but works brilliantly
14N
Another vote for carb cleaner. Don't think about getting the bay clean as a whole, focus on a small area and get that spotless. Then once that small area is done, focus on another. Repeat till fade....

wizurd
thanks mr wizard, mine looks like your ***before*** Once i got the strut brace off it looked shocking. Spent a while with the usual products you can get and thought how the hell am i gonna get this clean like you see other peoples bay's. Got the same advice on carb cleaner (might have got that from MopedMark as well as others) and was amazed how easy it was. Takes some time but not that long really. Probably took me an hour or two to get it all clean like that, around the back of the engine as well and also inside the brake and battery compartments. Thats the only problem, once all the gunk starts coming off you'll just want to keep going and going lol Edited May 30, 2014 by wizurd

wizurd
All the little scrapes and scuffs can then be touched up before you put it back together looking good wizurd Cheers mate Not quite on your level but getting there. Mikeyazure like MopedMark said once you've got it all clean use a touchup kit to get the paint back on there. I used the one from paints 4 u. While cleaning found a few rust spots so treated them and then undercoat, colour and clear coat. I only used the paint sticks to put the paint on but it did the job. wizurd
Dan I cannot see any difference between the before and after Might have to try this myself one day myself. Haha I'd def recommend it, makes a big difference getting all the crud off i thought. Would still make a difference in the black engine bay as well mate
Stutopia
Is a toothbrush too aggressive for getting in there, real deep like?
wizurd
Is a toothbrush too aggressive for getting in there, real deep like? i didn't find i needed that. ive got one of those trim removal kits that has a few long thin plastic parts. just wrapped the cloth in that and used it to get back down into trickier places or to run the rag into seems.

Jp606
Autobrite Jaffa + wire brush and tooth brush. Worked really really well, bay actually looks brand new after using it. I keep it dressed with Poorboys Dressing every so often. Hasn't needed a rewash yet and probably won't until next year. Stutopia
OMG I've never done anything so labour intensive that yields so little obvious rewards!!!! I threw two hours at this and apart from almost entirely separating my index finger from its nail and I'm no longer certain my toothbrush is going to be ok for my teeth any more I've made this much progress, both sides. Obviously did the general bay plastics for a nice easy win with some diluted APC. Before: After: 50/50: Carb cleaner is an absolute must to anyone who recommend it. I tried some engine cleaner/degreaser, and it removed precisely nothing. However, when you get some of this unknown matter off, and it starts to look shiny, it all becomes worth while. This is going to be a project in itself an hour or two each weekend to work my way around Edited May 31, 2014 by SuperStu
