zippypooz
Ok i want to get another oem unit for my 2005 zed, secondhand. Now im confused. is there a code that ill need to punch in for the new one to work or will it just plug n play!!? i just phoned nissan and they were about as helpful as a boil on the end of your nose!! 'apparently' theres 2 types of electrics on a zed, one allows you to use a different unit and the other doesnt, they wanted to charge me £50 to tell me which one i had!! hmmm. can anyone set the record straight please!!? ilogikal1
It depends which type you've got. Give me £45 and I'll tell you if you've got the right one. I don't actually know. Sorry.
M13KYF
it is to do with the NATS. Replacing the oem headunit with another OEM unit will require it to be paired to the NATS. Thats how I understand it

M13KYF
NATS - Nissan Anti Theft system I'm sure a good auto electrician or a audio specialist should be able to sort. It isn't impossible and know it has been done in the past. Nissan dealership will be able to sort too but probably more expensive http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/19459-buying-a-used-bose-head-unit/page__hl__divorce
techinstaller
If it helps i can tell you i bought the newest late second hand OEM Bose unit i could find and dismantled it removed the section which was the 6 Disc cd multi unit and swapped it into my original 54 reg oem stereo and cured the skipping issue completly, its a bit fiddly but depends on your skill / fear level lol .it did mean no issues with codeing etc

spursmaddave
Depends how much it bothers you.... 1. Look up Bose hack - connect a cable requiring very little tech know how which means you can connect iPod or USB then rip all your CDs 2. Buy a cheap new or 2nd hand HU buy the adapters/fascia and you have a smarter HU, no tape slot, working CD and iPod/USB, also probably slightly better SQ

techinstaller
Just to clarify my last post mate ,what i actually did was remove my original OEM Bose put it on the bench strip it down and the donor bose stereo from a late facelift 08 car that jap spares was breaking and swapped the cd multi internal unit out and into my original stereo and refitted it and that avoided any programming issues . you just need a newer stereo that you know is in full working order to start with

Thanks! I did have a skipping problem to though, especially when it was cold, so im actually thinking the head unit may need changing too...although i see you mentioned you had a similar problem and it cured it? BulletMagnet
The skipping problem could also be fixed by reseating the white ribbon cable the connects the changer to the HU. Something worth trying

zippypooz
Ps thanks guys for all your input, im appreciating it...its a nightmare not being able to play cds!!
BulletMagnet
Sometimes over time it goes out of alignment and all the contacts don't line up properly. Just detach, clean the contacts and reattach. Costs nothing apart from time, so worth trying.

At the mo it sounds like it tries to load a cd and its getting caught some how and keeps repeating this process, i cant eject the cds either. Its a common problem judging by what im seeing on here as im sure you know mate. I need to add your Xbox acc too!! haha

PiGFoetus
I'm still mulling over what to do with my OEM Bose. Or Skippy as it's known. It's currently got the tape deck full of silica gel, as I read somewhere that the issue is sometimes down to condensation in the unit. Seems to have helped a bit, but need to bite the bullet in the long term.

Hmmm its all a bit of a nightmare isnt it lol...i spoke to nissan and they told me changing the unit can cause problems...probably a ruse to get you to go to them lol!! Then do i keep it original or change it...will the new one fit ok and look ok with the interior, should i buy a secondhand OEM unit and fit that...will it work or not...will i need to re code it...bla bla bla lol. Luckily there are some good peeps on here so watching this post 24/7 lol
