Non-centering steering wheel

Hi guys,

So I've had my '04 350z for just under two months now, and one thing that slightly concerns me is the heaviness of the steering.

With my old Gen 6 Celica, I could go full lock, start to accelerate out of a corner, and the steering wheel would zip back through my fingers to center position very quickly all by itself. With the 350, it just...doesn't. Its not like I'm having to use a massive amount of force to get the wheel back into position or anything, but it feels like it would quite happily just stay at full lock unless I actively started nudging it back.

Is this normal? I know 350s are heavy bastards, but I kinda miss the responsiveness of the Celica in that regard.

Yes they do self centre so perhaps you may have an underlying issue as stated above.

However, why would you want the steering to self centre from full lock whilst driving on a public highway ?

This type of manoeuvre is best left to when on track.

Alex. :)

Don't worry, I'm not regularly throwing the car around corners at high speed or anything - the example I was citing was just me driving around a corner in a multistorey carpark this morning at about 5mph :) Just wanted to check that its not indicative of a more serious problem. I do worry about my g/f driving it too - she's only little, and occasionally struggles to straighten up in time after some low speed maneuvers (she already kerbed the alloys once!)
