AMT
Ok, jumping over to this side of the forum for the day lol I've had a look and its like bits and bobs in random threads but could someone draw me up a quick checklist of stuff to look for and general common faults if I were looking to go for a 370Z (coupe)?? Thanks for any help!
Marcus01
I can't give a comprehensive list but I recently searched and bought a 370. During my research I came across gearbox issues, just check the box is smooth. Steering lock issue, make sure it has had the recall Bonnet lifter issue, make sure bonnet opens smoothly. Cars with the connect premium sat nav 2010 onwards are more sought after. Other than these issues just the usual car checks for condition and history. 370Ad
I looked for a list when I got mine but it seems there aren't as many 'common' problems as the 350Z. Even the oldest 370Z is only 5 years old now so still relatively new so some issues may come with age. Clutch/gearbox is the only major differences I saw between cars. Other than that just standard things to check. Tyres are around 1K for 4 Bridgestones so keep that in mind
AMT
Awesome, thanks guys! I'm pondering. It'll be going in for a repair at the beginning of june but after that I was considering ...but I dunno. Could be fleeting but I'll need to drive one lol. Swings and roundabouts, with a new car comes the commond faults that haven't appeared with my car ive spent a lot but I 'know' most of the faults are done...meh. Cheers again! Any other info welcome! GIXXERUK
The bonnet hinges should be lubed, lack of lube makes them not work correctly as they are a cantilever. It's when this occurs they hit the top of the wing, chipping the paint This should be done on a service as should be the bonnet catch but I would guess its overlooked So worth a check - top of the wing by the windscreen Another common fault are the rear hatch springs, they're rubbish but easily remedied
Ebized
Make sure it has a full Nissan (hopefully HPC) service history but like the 350's, no point in handing over your life savings for Nissan servicing post the expiry of the warranty period as there are good independent alternatives out there. Aside from has been said above, one issue that I have seen raised by different members is the alarm going off randomly and I don't recall feedback as to what the causes were - although it may be 'operator' errors such as windows left open etc as opposed to faults. But worth checking as best you can. A set of tyres can be picked up for less than 1k now, in fact I have heard a set of the favoured Michelin Pilot Super Sports can be had for around £800 now - I would have saved over £250 compared to the price I paid in October 2013.
R35LEE
I would check the service history is HPC or from a Specialist, check it hasn't got cheap nasty ditch finder tyres on, Life in pads and discs, and most importantly what the gearbox is like when cold. We have seen a few high mileage 370z's now and the engines are still as strong as ever and use next to no oil. Great cars
.Griff.
Check to see if it's had the steering lock replaced?!?
stuarty
A bit off topic, but I feel the 370z is depreciating slower than like for like 350z. When I bought my 54 plate 350z in April 2011 it was only around 6.5 years old, low mileage, full service history and in excellent condition and i paid £7900 in a private sale. I seriously can't see a like for like 2009 370z going for so little around September next year, as it would be around 6.5 years old by then. Just a thought! I hope you may be right and the fact a lot less were sold compared to 350's is a bonus in the supply and demand stakes. Ane we also believe that 370 Roadster production has ceased, or least for the UK market - no doubt due to the poor numbers sold so that should have an immediate beneficial on second hand roadster values
alroma
The first one I test-drove (2010, 15k miles) was a complete dog; not sure if the problems it had are common but it suffered from: Very noticeable transmission whine Sluggish acceleration Prematurely worn interior (cracked leather on seats and gear knob) Centre console cubby-hole didn't shut properly Lots of stone chips on the big ol' nose Definitely seemed to have had a hard life! I think they're also quite susceptible to rusting underneath too.

alroma
Yeah, I was seriously disappointed for what I considered to be a relatively new car- very nearly put me off looking for another, but fortunately the next one I saw was mint. Hopefully it was just a one-off though and not a sign of things to come.
sipar69
In addition to the other points made in this thread, here are a few other things to look out for: -Boot failing to open properly when you press the boot release button (has occurred on all three of my 370Zs - you can either replace the springs or just live with opening the boot with two hands) -Side skirts tend to get peppered with stone chips (oddly doesn't seem to occur on the Nismo) -Wear on the alcantara parts of the interior e.g. where the door is pulled shut -Exhaust (rubbish) - ok not technically an 'issue' in the same sense as the others but in my opinion something you do need to consider when planning your budget (unless you're going to be happy with a car that looks and performs like a sports car but sounds like a generic family hatchback). AMT
Oh also... did you not get full leather with a 370Z? Everyone I see is part leather. I hate part leather ...

Lol of course, I just needed to check the data base, every new member for the last 7 yrs has a profile this is about .....wanting to know the negative points of 370 which in turn will justify hanging on to the 350 a bit longer
AMT
You may be right, its like it improves on the 350 but yet the bits you like it doesn't have lol Most of them are stupid but hey, I would need to live with it eg... - The rear glove box where my snow socks, tyre pump etc are...Is just open space on a 370..and the actual glove box is utter crap - Exhaust sound isn't as good - you don't get FULL leather seats.. - The buttons seem more flimsy than in 350 despite looking nicer - Why are the wing mirrors so damn big?! - Brakes that don't stand out like the gold Bremos - Anything you put in the back seems like it could come forward in heavy breaking...I suddenly like my boot divider... Yep your right, maybe the 370 isn't for me lol hah .... although this looks great! http://www.autotrade...g?logcode=ucnnp Edited April 27, 2014 by AMT

AMT
Stop proving me wrong.... lol! It has a proper tyre pump?? Not one of those white gooey things thts fills it with stuff lol. Yes it is a bit more form than funtion with the brakes i guess. The mirrors are massive compared to my 350s tho! Anyway, I think ill drive one at some point see what its like. Will I feel anything majorly different in the drive compared to a 350? Lighter clutch or jst the same? Etc Cheers for the replies by the way! sipar69
Up to you of course but I found it hard to ignore the fact that virtually every review I read when I bought my first 370 (and trust me, I read everything available at the time) said words to the effect that the 370 is a significant improvement over the 350. If you're happy with your 350 fair play - lots of people are, but I'd be willing to bet that if you got the 370 you'd be on here talking about how pleased you are with it. Seems to me that the fact your even asking these questions means you've got the itch to upgrade. The only question is how long you wait to scratch it Edited April 28, 2014 by sipar69
AMT
I've ALWAYS got an itch to upgrade and the fact its had damage done to it (getting fixed lol) by dozy buggers just kinda makes me wanna start a fresh (but comes with it new 'common faults'). Meh, I'll test drive one and see what I think. Also need to get its windscreen and panel repaired which should be done at the end of May. Grrr
