JetSet
Funnily enough, I did run this through my mind some time ago seeing as I'll have a spare Zed at the Wales meet . I'm not sure the owner would have been too happy though . Pete
KyleR
Would you hire out your girlfriend? Same effing thing, only I'm allowed in it As far as you know Zed only has 1 key and it's always on me oh wait you meant...

chirag1988
Funnily enough this conversation came up at work with a colleague. He's got a wedding to attend and asked me the possibility of hiring the car from me. I said HELL NO! In the nicest way possible of course. Z is my second car and as I don't get to drive it as often as I'd like, there's no way I'd let anyone else drive it!
tatooandy67
NO NO NO NO NO I'm even a bit fussy about who sits in the passenger seat So again NO NO NO NO NO
Ekona
I wouldn't, because I don't need the extra money. If I suddenly did, then I'd be more likely to sell the car for funds rather than hire it out.
clockwize
Thanks for your opinions (and talking about hiring my other half 😊). Pretty unanimous answer!
AliveBoy
I would, can't really give it a much harder life than I do already obviously the money charged would have to cover an oil change when I get it back and some in the pocket. Oh and if they broke it/anything they're liable for it X2. Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Rock_Steady
uh uh, never. I once let a friend drive me GT-four, he had no idea how to drive a turbo charged car, or any car for that matter. I almost ground my teeth down to the gums sitting next to him. I just don't like anyone driving my car, not even my dad who'll ceremoniously pull away in 2nd and go straight into 6th. clockwize
I was thinking more of "for a weekend, doing under X miles, any milage above X charged at Y per mile" or something. You'd agree for someone to hire it for a weekend, they get checked out, pre-pay deposit to cover cosmetic stuff (they ding it, they don't get their deposit back, etc), and insurance to cover anything more serious. They turn up, you show them how to operate everything etc, give them a bit of advice, detail any current cosmetic marks and milage and both sign it When they come back, you inspect it, record the milage, agree any new cosmetic marks etc, sign off on it and off they go. AliveBoy
To be honest, it would be more hassle than it's worth and they'd be able to hire much faster cars for the same price. Insurance would be an issue, as normal policies state the car must not be used for hire or reward.
clockwize
sounds like your doing market research Yeah.. Insurance would be an issue, as normal policies state the car must not be used for hire or reward. Yeah, special insurance would be arranged separately from the owners normal policy for the hire period. You can hire an R8 for about £1000+ for a weekend.. I'm just thinking about it, wondering how much it would cost for this kind of insurance for the period + how much people would expect to hire their Z for a weekend. StevoD
for the hassle you would be better off getting your own fleet and insurance,

So, I'm hiring a 3.7 litre V6 Mustang in Vegas for 10 days, it's in August and I'm under 25 so both of those things put the cost up. I'm paying just over £400 including the young driver fees, all the available insurance so I don't have to pay out for dings and a full tank of fuel. I'm not sure they'd be a market for a 350, a 370 Nismo yes, but not a standard one really.
clockwize
for the hassle you would be better off getting your own fleet and insurance, The hassle of owning and storing a fleet of high performance vehicles is probably far greater ... The only difference is turning it from a b2c to a c2c model. Just connecting people and giving them the tools process and support to do it. StevoD
but when theres an issue with my car and the client says it wernt him there one person im coming chasing for the money, and because your the third party its easy for the blame/cost to be placed towards the person not there for each hand over Edited April 25, 2014 by StevoD

I'm not really talking about Z's that is just an example for the case of this forum £400 for 10 days, insurance, fuel etc for <25.. that is amazing. I'd like to see that in the UK.. the small amount of research I've done for decent cars is crazy prices. I'm just thinking along the lines of there is nothing out there at the moment for the people who can't afford to hire an R8 or a Ferrari or something, but still want to get a nice sexy fast car for a weekend in the summer. And on the flip side, some people who own these cars might be able to justify it a bit more if they could make a bit of money out of it when they aren't using it.. Obviously some are financially secure with their second car Z and have no need to do it and wouldn't consider it, but others might..

It would be managed for you (on the insurance, money, etc side of things) but you'd have to follow the process of detailing issues before and after so you and they are both protected. gareth29
I've thought about doing this - a friend and I hired a caterham 7 from Roadsport Hire near York and had a blast - 200+ miles all around the North York moors. It cost £180 + a tank of fuel , 120 inclusive miles and 60p/mile after that. The couple who owned the car (who also had a SV 7 and a boxster for hire) were great and we spent some time chatting about the business. They were giving it up as it was too tying during holidays and weekends. They mentioned that there were only 2 (may have been 1) insurance companies that would cover them. clockwize
Yeah, I can imagine it would be difficult to find insurance for it, one of the issues I'd be looking in to Nice to hear of someone doing it
