I can't wait to see what it weights man, Im just gonna take out what weight I can and then corner balance and get ride hight set up with some rake front to rear as its miles away ATM. And no I'm only 6' 2/3" hahah could easy do with 10KG off me! lol
harryjackson
That tar sound dead looks terrible. Not looking forward to that when my car starts weight loss.
djtimo
That tar sound dead looks terrible. Not looking forward to that when my car starts weight loss. Just get dry ice mate, I spent ages cleaning the boot area which would have taken only a few hours with ice If you doing a full car don't do it with out ice, I just have a small ish section left so was debating if it would be worth the 1 hour round trip plus extra cost to get these last bits off?? I still may do it but Im not sure yet. Wish i have a total weight for the tar in the boot and arches I just guessed when it was in a bucket years ago lol
harryjackson
It seems quite considerable though. My brother is a chef and uses dry ice to make his ice cream I believe.

djtimo
Small amount done today as i could only spare about an hour and half. Made a start on removing the tar deadener with out dry ice. Before on driver footwell. During.. I did get most of it off but didn't get pic. Its taken just over an hour to get to this sort of state, its actually coming off better than the boot did so not too time consuming lol.. Ive also had a new bit of carbon through the post off tarmac sportz thats not really a peformance mod but I just want to jazz up the old OEM zed headlights. djtimo
Im very tempted by lean front windows with sliders at the moment. About half the weight of glass and about the same price as buying new window motors?? Plus I can rip out the winder motors guides and inner door plate? Thats gonna save about 4-5KG a door I would think Any one have experience with lexan windows?? Jez from horsham dev??

djtimo
Update I took some measurements on my wing angle to see where I'm at. (APR has wing angle and drag vs. downforce on there website so i know its not the same wing but the megan is a copy of a APR wing profile so I'm using these as rough guides) Straight edge on the wing sides (steepest AoA) Used my phone for angle readings. Wing center has the lowest AoA but receives downward air flow that follows the roof line so actual AoA is higher. Angle
djtimo
Update More tar removed from the floor and added to the new bag (I did give up and use the hoover for the dust so I would think i need to add on a few hundred grams for small bits i sucked up) Last bit of boot trim removed. Removed part of the bulk head rock wool. Small pile of parts that have come out (rear washer jet hose, brakes and bose bits that were unused) Cleaned up the seam sealer more with a wire brush on a drill. Still not 100% but i will do the rest in the prep for painting the floor. Diver seat back in for now! Passenger side still needs a while longer getting all the seam sealer out but my back has given up hunching over the footwells! lol.. TOTAL WEIGHT REMOVED SO FAR = 25.47KG Edited December 27, 2015 by djtimo

What brake bleeder did you use or where did you get it from? As gonna be changing lines soon, so it will come handy I was thinking about stripping the car for a while. Its been fully stripped the back end for years but the front was still almost fully stock. Im kind of going half way as I'm painting the floor and still running full dash and trans tunnel plastics etc to keep it looking nice Its a fair amount louder now! You can hear the BOV clearly now! Brake leader was from machine mart I think! Works very well but you need to keep pumping to maintain a decent vacuum.

ddcboyle
So much elbow grease required! If you have a gym membership, just cancel it, you're getting a full workout with the car Awesome build so far
djtimo
So much elbow grease required! If you have a gym membership, just cancel it, you're getting a full workout with the car Awesome build so far LOL.. I remember the rear end work taking ages and being hard work but that was few years back and I just forgot how much work was involved lol.. I just started this project thinking "ah it can't take that long"... Oh well I have done a few more hours cleaning the seam sealer from the passenger footwell today and thats looking a lot neater now. Almost ready for paint. Next job was to fit my carbon headlight eyebrows... These are well known to add huge front end grip and unto 65BHP in the right set up before Passenger side front corner does not want to stay down unfortunalty. This may lift up over night Both sides duck taped down to set. Left now to set over night.. Fingers crossed the look OK. djtimo
Took the duck tape off the eyebrows this morning and started to clean up the mess lol.. The tape had left a ton of sticky crap on the brows and the lights so too a while but they look cool! IMHO anyway Gave the cars a quick snow foam too All cleaned off.
GT4 Zed
Nice progress Tim! Brings back painful memories when I did my full strip. Had to use heat and paint thinner!! Good plans for next year. I had a full quote sometime back for zed specific cut lexan replacement for windows, the boot and small rear quarter windows for under 500quid. I'll see if I can dig it up as I'll be doing this too and we may get a small discount buying together. Pm when you are ready to pull the trigger. My list is far smaller as I've checked off a bit over the years😎. Do you feel you should have gone fully caged?
djtimo
Hi Bennett! Yeah I wish I went full cage mate. At the time I didn't think the car would go this mad. Full cage would be a better option. I may still end up fully caged but it just makes it harder to fit with the rear welded in. Have you got your full cage in now??
