pmorg4
Hi all, my cd player has packed up so im in the process of trying to choose a decent new stereo that will also look good in the zed (open to suggestions by the way!!) Finding a head unit that looks good (i.e. not chav!) is the difficult part. It seems the aftermarket mainly caters to barry boys these days, so good luck in your search. I'm still on the stock radio as I couldn't find anything that offers all the nice features of an upgrade system while looking reasonably "original". Depends on whether you can stand flashing bright blue lights I guess Keep us posted with your progress - sorry I couldn't be more help, but I'd be interested to see what you choose

richmillions
I've not changed my stereo for the same reasons as the others, nothing near to OEM looking.

pmorg4
Maybe get something from another (newer) Nissan, that will look original but have better functionality. Sound quality probably won't be any better though, and there's the issue of units coded to the car, so not sure how viable that option is.

The Trouser
My OEM CD player broke after about 5 years - my Nissan dealer quoted £1000 to replace the head unit
pmorg4
My OEM CD player broke after about 5 years - my Nissan dealer quoted £1000 to replace the head unit Even though it probably costs about £50 to manufacture. There are plenty on the used market for pennies, although VIN coding poses a hurdle.
Level 7 Boss
I've got a new head unit to fit as well as a new amp. Only problem is I'm as technical and mechanically minded as a dead rabbit. Hoping someone will give me a hand at the ace cafe meet to install
Grundy
When did new Tech get branded as Chav and Barry? What's wrong with new modern head units? They have built in amps, so better audio output, they have there own EQ so you can calibrate the audio Come with Ipod/MP3/Bluetooth connections, built in sat navs, movie capabilities. Don't get why a decent bit of kit is branded as chavvy lol.

A lot of the main headunit manufacturers have an RGB colour chooser so that you can set the buttons to the same as the OEM buttons (or any other colour you wish). I'd personally say that's anything but "barry boys," maybe you've just been looking at the wrong end of the market, or just in Halfords or something . Try someone like Kenwood, a lot of the German manufacturers use them as an upgrade from OEM.

Dont get me wrong, basically i meant all the flashing lights etc...obviously the units would be better, its just a shame that if you want a decent head unit the multi coloured lights seem to come with them too lol

Exotic
I've not changed my stereo for the same reasons as the others, nothing near to OEM looking. Not so I've got a Kenwood DDX-6029 and the colour matches the interior perfectly Might be newer models that match, just need to look around. Exotic
Why is it not flush? Not sure that pic is not mine, but I will post mine up. The screen has a various 'tilt' options so might tilt out naturally for this to work for best viewing angles, although I'm sure mine looks better than that one. Stutopia
I plumped for a pioneer avh-x2500bt, with the RGB colour choices I got the buttons and screen to match the OEM orange interior LEDs for the heater/AC unit/dash etc. You can also load up a personalised wallpaper, so you could easily just use a plain black wallpaper, the only element some might feel is chavy is the album artwork - but then that would mean you buy music with chavy covers, so it's time to stop listening to Scooter Works with Bluetooth USB steering wheel buttons etc
pmorg4
That pioneer does look OK, more so with the buttons changed to orange. Can you disable the "beep" function on that unit? Some Pioneer units cannot have the beep on button press disabled, which rules them out for me. It would be nice if it had a volume dial rather than +/- buttons, especially since there is plenty of space for a dial on the side. Still you can't have it all I guess

Still you can't have it all I guess I'd prefer a dial too, but tend to use steering controls mostly. As for the beep, I could've sworn there wasn't one, so I just went out to check. It's definitely there, but it's quite quiet, certainly more quiet than my music volume + the engine. I can't believe I've just blocked this beep out until now! It's gonna p!ss me right off, thanks
pmorg4
lol sorry! No idea why aftermarket head units have a confirmation beep. Was there ever a problem with people reaching out and pressing the unit without realising they'd done so, then complaining that the radio was spontaneously changing station of its own accord? It's one of those "features" that drives me bonkers. Thankfully most units that have this allow you to disable it.

Probably a safety feature - So you don't have to keep looking at the headunit to see if it has done what you wanted it to do.
